Moniter or graphics card issues?

Ok, so here is the deal. My friend said he was having computer issues. His monitor said it had no signal when his computer was on. He brought his computer to my house to see if it would work on my computer. I plugged it into my monitor which is an LG 19" flattron wide and nothing happened. So i figured it was just his computer and i unplugged it. then i plugged my computer back into my monitor and the boot menu showed fine. After the boot the screen goes black and the screen says that it is going into power saving mode. When the cord is unplugged, it says check signal cable. I am not sure what i can do now, can anyone help?
My setup is windows xp pro, evga nvidia geforce 8800gt, seagate 250g, coasair ps, gigabyte mb. Anything else you need to know?

So do you think your computer is going through a full bootup then showing blank screen or its hanging sometime during bootup before it gets to Windows?

my computer is definitely booting up because i heard the windows start up sound. Also when i enter the bios the moniter will saty on for as long as i have the bios up.

Thats awesome i can see the screen in safe mode but it still will not go on regular start up. What do i need to do to fix this?

In safe mode open the device manager and uninstall the video card and display drivers and reboot hopefully that will reinitialize them. Use safe mode with network support and download the video card drivers if you dont have them already so you can install them after the uninstall is done.

Do you see any of the Windows boot screens, and then when it gets to Windows, it just quits? Make sure refresh rate is at 60Hz. Try adjusting from safe mode with VGA enabled.
