Money best spent??

I'm building a new computer for my brother, and I'm trying to decide how to best spend this money. Bear with me, it will get to the vid cards in a sec.

1 gig of Corsair XMS PC3200 2-3-3-6 ram w/ heatspreaders is $322

1 gig of Corsair PC3200 CAS 2.5 ram is $195

That's roughly a $130 difference.

Now, onto the graphics cards.

A Radeon 9800pro 128mb is roughly $200

A Geforce 6800 GT 256mb is roughly $360

That's about a $160 difference.

So, my question is, would I be better off going with the XMS PC3200 2-3-3-6 ram and the 9800pro for $522 or the 2.5 cas PC3200 valueram and the 6800GT for $560?

The price difference is negligible at that point, so which is better out of the XMS/9800pro vs. the Cas2.5 valueram/6800GT??

I would say Cas2.5 ram and 6800GT to answer your q.
But if I were building it for myself, I would go with CAS2.5 ram and the 9800pro.

i agree with them....nvidia 6800GT is by far better than the 9800pro, I'd go for the second choice.
if it's a new computer, why don't you purchase a mainboard with PCI-e support and buy a video card of this version?

I wasn't aware that PCI-express was out already, and I'm sure it's very expensive.

if i was about to build a comp i would wait for PCI-E to come... and the 512 video cards.. and i would get DDR2 instead of regular DDR.
but if i had to choose.. 6800 gt and value ram

Well waiting isn't an option, he needs it by the time fall classes roll around, which is mid August. I'll be ordering it within the next day or two.
