I hated working like that. But for me it was Sunday-Thursday. Even though I had two days off, it never felt like the weekend.
What would you do if your boss asked you to start working on Saturdays?
ask for additional compensation or other perk.
Well I did ask if I could work my normal 7-4 Mon. - Fri. then come in and pick up 4 extra hours of OT on Saturday. I reall have no reason to take off early during the week since my wife will be at work. I figure having a solid 8 hours of OT each paycheck won't be to bad.
Two half days are a no go. If I'm at work, I'm staying for the duration. My day's already ruined, so I might as well make some money. What do you do exactly? Why would working Saturday help the company?
We have users that come in to play catch up so corporate wants a local tech here incase there are any problems help desk can't fix remotely. More than likely I'll be sitting around nerfing or watching movies on my phone. Sure it will be easy money but I can kiss going out of town with my wife or family bye.
That sounds like it's on the slacking users. From a business point of view, it sounds like it would be a waste of money to have you go in on a non-working day just in case something happens to the people who should have had their work done during the normal week. I think anyone who goes in on Saturday should just accept what they get. If something goes tits up, that's just bad luck, and they can try again Monday. No reason to ruin your weekend, and pay you to babysit them.
You may end up paying all of that OT pay in taxes. Make sure it's worth it, before you do it.
Ok, how is that possible? If you get 1.5x time for OT and you assume the 35% bracket for the OT pay you take home 0.975x pay for those extra hours. If the rest of your tax burden for every other hour is less than 2.5% total then you get more pay per hour for OT even at the highest bracket. What am I missing here? With tax brackets no matter what happens if you make more gross you net more.
