Which do you prefer and why?

Y'know, I had always thought, without really thinking much, that monarchies were a pretty tyrannical form of government, just like democracy is, but then I read this:

http://libertariananarchy.com/2009/06/monarchy-vs-democracy-and-the-decline-of-civilization/
Every democracy has failed and it's the most ancient form of government.

If the public owns a government and they share the cost of war, etc., then they're not going to be so cautious about declaring war. Whereas if a single person owns a government, then they're going to be a lot more careful--they'd lose everything they have if they lose the war. If one person owns the land and makes the rules, then obviously, they're not going to take a huge risk and waste all of their own money on a war while risking their kingdom.

A monarchy isn't as good as a stateless society, but it's a lot better than a democracy.

I think history has shown quite compellingly that democracy is superior. I would rather live in a monarchy of a TV-grade king who is benevolent but they are few and far between, if indeed they even exist at all.

"Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." :p

Seriously some benevolent monarchies and dictatorships have been cool but by in large they were terrible for people living under them. Open your eyes. Would you rather live in Saudi Arabia or Germany?

So he lists a bunch of known problems and suggests a Monarchy is better? I didnt read the entire article. But imo the premise is silly. I also saw he talked about Democractic wars are excessive. Coming off a century that saw hundreds of millions die from ideologies other than democracy. And the centuries before that saw brutal coloinization of the world under monarchies. I think he is full of shit.

there was a comment on Meet the Press yesterday about how one of the reasons that China's weathered the global economic collapse so well is because their government can basically do whatever it needs to while Western democracies have to compromise and worry about political implications.

but I think I'll stick with my democracy, even if we can't artificially devalue our currency and screw over other countries.

I hope that they prefaced by reminding the reader that literally hundreds of millions of Chinese live and work in what we'd consider egregious conditions and that it is also in great part because of how their gov is.

I also would stick with what there is here. However, you can screw other countries without having to devalue currency :)

I prefer Private interest to Public interest. Imposing this nanny/slave/tyrannical state (BY A MOTHER F**KING BUSINESS NO LESS!!!) is bogus, and CONSENSUAL. We are all private until we join (most of the time are tricked into) a society of public union (i.e. the corporation that is the UNITED STATES) via private contract.
