MonarchComputer has these special combo deals available...(I found the 939 or 754 socket combos to be the best because they come with a free copy of hl2, farcry, and napster)

Now in these combos they give you the option of selecting an application  of shin-etsu thermal grease. DO NOT select this when you put it in your basket. WHen you go through the process of check-out they will offer you the same grease for half-off....

Enjoy :)

I know, but not the shin-etsu thermal grease part. They are trying to glean some extra money off people who select it firsthand.

I wouldn't bother with the Shin-etsu. I'd just get the retail fan and the thermal pad that's on it.

I'm not sure that this always happens, but I ordered a s939 retail combo from monarch recently, and I opted out of the fancy grease because I have a tube of arctic silver at home anyway. I figured I'd just get the standard thermal pad, but to my surprise it had a silver grease already when I went to replace it with the AS.

Here's what I'm thinking actually... maybe monarch ships them all with the Shin-Etsu, and that's why they give you a second chance at half off... if they didn't go for the charge the first time then maybe they will if it's half the price. It appears that no matter what you order you're going to get a greased heatsink. Which is a HOT DEAL come to think of it.

They might be selecting that brand since last I heard, you void your retail AMD CPU warranty if you use ANY thermal grease on it except one specific shin etsu grease.

BTW, I just took advantage of this for a amd64 3000+ and a asus a8n sli deluxe mobo. It was nice to get farcry and an extra copy of hl2.

Every retail Athlon 64 I've seen already has Shin etsu applied.

I sell Shin Etsu G751 and X23-7783D...but I don't see any reason to buy it if the retail HSF is good enough.

If you upgrade to a better HSf for OCing fun...then you can buy Shin Etsu or Arctic Silver
