Monarch Price Drop again on 3200+ 939 Winnie

I think its just their normal price fluctuating (that pretty much all e-tailers do).

The OEM was $168 shipped from them just the week or so before.

Not saying this isn't worthy of a thread, but just kinda giving a heads up on whats going on.
 
crazy that the 3200+ oem is still selling over the price i paid from monarch for it in december (173).
 
Gosh, I feel better now. The combo price for the oem 3000 is now CHEAPER than the stand-alone price.

Whatever these guys are using, I sure wish I could get ahold of some.....
 
Monarch rox....AMD partners as well.

I have had nothing but good experiences with this outfit. Both high end motherboards x2 and high end and mid end graphics cards.

Same here. I have ordered multiple times without a problem. Also, no sales tx for CA which is a big plus!
 
First time buyer for me but I have watched comments from Fatwallet & Anandtech about this outfit. They are just great. Products delivered intact and shipping as good as it could get. They are now 1st on my price check when I have a need.
No tax in CA is great.
 
Whats the better deal here..go with the 3200 with the heatsink/fan or pick up the 3000 and buy a heatsink/fan...much performance difference at all? I dont overclock.
 
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Is overclocking really worth it?

Is the OEM better than the Retail Box?

What's a good heatsink and fan to buy? Preferably something quiet 🙂

I just got a combo from Monarch

I have decided not to overclock it

thinking about it the price of upgraded heatsink/fan and cooling system, and so on is sometimes more or comparable to just getting a higher processor or better just buy a mid range CPU now and wait a year or so to buy today's high end then, at a reduced price

no need to worry with frying your CPU ? mobo or warranty problems

I always go retail because of the warranty (3 years standard versus 90 days OEM)

for those who do not overclock the stock fan is very good and yields good perfomance
... unless you want to build a silent (or near silent system) system

however, the stock fan is not that noisy

just like with high performance memory, some of these "urge to upgrade" are nothing more than marketing gimmicks for less than 5% gains

This aint a pentium so bus speed is not so clear as multiplier can be changed.

I am running my 3200+ at 300x8.5 though.

To Sandersann: some things are not just good for 5% gains...I got a serious overclock out of my 3200+ to 3700+ levels (technically a little beyond since memory timings I increased as well). I am running near stock temps and voltage so wear and tear will not be a factor although even if so in what 5 - 7 years? I usually purchase retail, since pricing is often negligable.

However all that said to some people 200Mhz is nothing if it costs more, and other's a $250 price increase for the next fastest CPU is nothing. For me overclocking is getting a decent priced piece of gear and trying to push it as far as I can....in my day to day use I probably couldn't tell the difference if someone put my box back to stock until I started up a game or benchmark.

if you dont use the stock fan but like say the zalman does that void the warranty given that you DONT overclock?

No using another fan will not void your warranty

it is true that one could get 25% increase, but those getting such "added value" are generally accomplished O'Cers not newbies (hence the questions in this thread)

one has then to weight the ratio between risk and gain and see if the increase they are getting in select applications (as you mentioned benchmarks and games) are worth the risk and possible cost to have to replace the CPU and or Mobo


my point is that a new Althon 64 system is not the place to begin any heavy O'cing journey


as for me,

the sytem I am building tommorow whren my last parts will arrive
has a MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Mobo
AMD Athlon 64 3000 939 Pin 90nm Retail
plus a ATI 800XL 256 mb and 1 gig of Corsair Value Ram

for my work and gaming need this will be more than enough
sure I could squeeze more out of it and buy more expensive memory and fan
but I do not have the time nor the desire to O'C now

in a year or two, when the system would have "paid for itself", If I do not want to do a major CPU/ parts upgrade then it would be the time to O'C

to each his own!
