Monarch is selling a AMD PCI-e MB ( not nforce4)

that price better go down once the competition with nvidia and via starts, or ATI will not sell much at all
It a high price because it's a pre-order. Thats the only real reason. Those don't look like PCI-E slots to me.

the ATI Xpress 200 chipset seemed to perform on par with nForce4, so this board will certainly form a good basis for your PCI-e/DDR/S939 powered gaming rig
actually, while it kept up with the reference nf4, the gigabyte retail board ended up about 5% faster on average. Unless the retail boards for ATI are a lot better (which I doubt, it sounded like ATI tried to make a reference board pretty much as fast as was possible with their chipset, so I don't see a whole lot of room for improvement), the Xpress 200 will be pretty much stuck at the low end/OEM market.
my point was simply that when reviewers got ahold of ATI's "Bullhead" reference board, ATI made it very apparent that they had worked "really" hard on it, and that it should be up to quality of a retail board, which is probably true, considering the overclocking results and such. nvidia's reference board was much more rugged, and definitely not up to snuff for retail. I just don't see the kind of improvement seen from nvidia's retail boards coming from ATI. I could be wrong, but even if I am, ATI's boards will still only be as fast as nforce4, not faster. Equal performance, coupled with a practically non-existent feature set, is a recipe for the bargain basement if I've ever seen one.
Does anyone else feel like all the review websites are kinda coddling the new ATI chipset? I mean, sure, it's not bad like the last few, but still, there is really nothing other than integrated graphics that makes it stand out in any way. Average performance, terrible features, and yet every website seems to just rave and rave about it. It almost seems like they feel sorry for ATI in the chipset market, and don't want to hurt its feelings or something. I mean, even VIA's new low-end K8T890 has better features than this chipset, and no one is raving about that chipset, other than to say it was the first chipset (before it got delayed 2 months) with PCIe.

I had to bump this to show how useless it is to spot an item on a reseller's website (even a reputable one) and assume that we'll see the product in a few weeks or so.
Well one thing that faces us with pre-orders is us being completely at the manufacturer or vendor's mercy as to when we're going to receive an item. We're promised dates, we conservatively post an ETA on our website, and then the last minute it is changed. Makes us look bad, and customers mad all at once! Never a fun issue, but unfortuantely it is a reality we face when we sell pre-orders.
On a brighter note, the MSI board did come in a plenty, and actually earlier than we last expected.
This is not a deal. Some other sites have had this board on sale for over a month for less than $100 and had them in stock.
Yep. I agree. ATI is new at this and I doubt the chipsets will be very stable on their first outing. Like Nvidia, VIA, and others it will take time for them to mature and become a viable alternative. I'm SURE the fanboys will flame me for this but all I have to say is....remember NVidia NF1?

Evidently you do not remember the 320 and 340 series chipsets for both desktop and mobile. I have the 320M IGP in my over 2yr old notebook, and I am still on the original install minus bloatware. Not so much as a single BSOD or crash in all that time. Not a high performance chipset even for its day but stable and good on power usage for the time thanks to PowerNow! and ATI's PowerPlay.

Where have you seen this board for sale for $100 or less? I don't frequent many sites and usually stick with Newegg, ZipZoomFly and Monarch when I'm just browsing. Newegg does have this board, of the FoxConn uMTX/NForce4/PCI-E one, listed yet. ZipZoomFly has this board for $100, but back-order or pre-order. Monarch has this board for $150 and the FoxConn for $100.
I found that board at another vender for $99, but don't recall the name. I might pay $99 for it, but not $150.
