With the expected price increases for Opteron processors on Monday it has become harder to find good prices on the Opteron processors. Monarch is offering the lowest current price on a couple of processors before the price increase.

Edit: They raised the price on the standalone OEM chip. You can still get the $135.75 price if you order with motherboard and hsf.

Retail

Opteron 165 OEM - $265.75 with Motherboard combo. Discussed in another thread in Hot Deals. Retail shows at $291 with combo.

Opteron 165 Thread

Unfortunately there is no break for the 146 or 148 models.

I can't believe you guys are not all over this.
Total cost for an Opteron 144 OEM 939 delivered = $140.75 !

I'll bet this price goes through the roof by Monday - noon.

Edited to state: "an Opteron", not "a Opteron".

It would be best to go ahead and upgrade to the Retail version. The price difference is alittle over $18. Including the charge of $12.xx for a basic hsf.

My Opteron from tankguys is at 2.43ghz right now on stock voltage. XP-90 keeping it at 29C idle, 36C under load.

I'd be all over this like white on rice if I didn't already have one.

opty is always a very good deal esp. 144/146 considering speed/cache/price/thermal characteristics.

Me too.

I'd still buy it, though. I'm going to think about it overnight. If it's still there in the morning and I've decided to buy it, I'll go ahead. Problem is, I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ sitting in my computer right now, so I'd have to get rid of that right quick. It's E3 stepping, too, so I'm kind of hesitant to let it go. But it won't hit that magical 2.7GHz (300MHz FSB x 9, which puts ValueRAM at DDR266 running at 400MHz). Hmm...

If I don't want a HSF at all (have a spare Opteron retail HSF already), will Monarch ship the combo without assembly and testing?

I'm a cheapskate I guess, but the price increase from $135 to $150 even with combo is a big difference. Anybody have an idea if dual-cores (3800+) will get down to $200 anytime soon?

I just got off the phone with them because I bought an OEM 144, and specified no heasink/fan. Did not like the choices.

Anyway the guy told me that they put a heatsink on for testing and then just ship without one. He said that often people order OEM because they already have a heatsink. I think I will get an XP-90...

So they called you? I was hoping they would just go ahead and ship without one.

I called them. He sounded like the order had already been processed. I was a little nervous, after I had placed the order and was actually calling to add the Zalman, but he said that they have people that already have heatsinks, and get the OEM's without them. I think they just don't want idiots to fry them by not using a heatsink at all.

Not sure if they would have called me if I had not called them. From the way the guy sounded, they would have just gone ahead and shipped it, but I can't say for sure. My recommendation would be to go ahead and call after ordering to be sure. I got right through and only talked to the guy for 2 minutes.

When I was looking around, chose OEM w/o HS/F and got a popup stating "www.monarchcomputer.com:
Note: If you have chosen an OEM CPU and choose NONE as a fan option, your order will be delayed while we contact you about purchasing a fan. We cannot assemble and test your build without a fan."

Whats with the price increase today?

I just got my price list for system builers from three diff suppliers and my amd system builder email and all wrote about the huge price drops accross the board on all chips today.
So where does the increase come from?

From what I understand the docks in SF and NY have over thirty containers of AMD cpu's.

I just don't get where this price increase is coming from.

I got the same message, but they *did* sell it without ordering a HS/F from them. YMMV

I think there was a post a few days ago about AMD raising the prices on the Opterons. Might be a thread around somewhere

Just a tactic to sell you a HS/F IMHO and was the (implied) intent of my original response.

Looks to me like the 144 and 146 retail sets are OOS... they had the 144 retail has an combo option last night around 2am... but now all they have are the OEM chips for combos.

Edit: Called and Monarch confirmed that the Retail 144 is OOS. The 146 Retail is currently OOS, but expected to arrive on 1/30/06. By the way, they are also OOS of the Free Half Life 2 coupons, which they had plenty of last night as well. Guess I should have jumped on this deal last night when I could have gotten a stock HSF for cheap and free Half Life 2 to give to a buddy. :(

PRICE REDUCTION!!!
Opteron 144 OEM is currently $130 with combo!!!

They do not have the Opty 144 OEM available without purchasing a combo, so may not be hot for some... but this is the best price in a little while. Hopefully the price continues to come down... but I just ordered one in case this price drop is temporary.

Get em while they're hot (again)
