Monarch Computer - when did they go under?

I was looking around the web the other day and realized that I still had an opteron from them that was under warranty so I decided to go to their website. Imagine my surprise when it didn't come up so I tried using a search engine. I got the same thing. Well today I'm looking around and found a forum over at pugent pc that says they're honoring the warranty of monarch to help its customers. I wasn't happy to say the least especially since I paid extra for a 3 year warranty on my opty. I also bought my video and sound card from them so they made some money off me. I was just wondering if anybody else had dealt with them and if you'd been left in the lurch by their sudden shuttering.

I heard they were doing lots of shady things since their new managers and such took over. Probably related to them going under.

You'll have to fall back on the individual product manufacturers' warranties. Any extended warranties are gone unless they were handled thru a 3rd party that is stll extant.

.bh.

Monarch for a while had a like 8.2 on reseller ratings with a 3/6 month rating of about 2.0

At some point they went under new management, and that person literally drove the business completely into the ground. Needless to say customers started getting angrier and angrier and eventually the ineptness caused a shutdown.

I was curious about this as well.

So the original owners sold the company and the new guy destroyed it in short order? Thats to bad...monarch filed an important niche with their custom built systems and affordable extended warrentee coverage.

A lot of companies don't survive a management change...the new guy often doesn't understand the way the customers expect things.

Monarch was having problems well before the sale. Their last year was a rough one. The original owner sold out while the getting was good and the new owner basically stepped in and raped and cheated people left and right. Money was taken from credit cards and orders didnt go out. Refunds werent refunded. Vendors werent paid. Warranties werent honored. That sort of thing. Then the Georgia law stepped in and shut things down and locked it up tight. Its in the legal court system now.

All of the above is true, but when GA shut down Monarch, it was over unpaid taxes.....not over anything else.

But I also read that the new owner had made a decision to stock Monarch heavily biased towards AMD cpus. Now there's nothing wrong with an AMD cpu....have run quite a few over the last decade. But to stock one brand to the exclusion of the other major player in the cpu arena can spell trouble......especially when the "other guy" releases a killer cpu, at least for now, and a big run is made to that line of cpus.....to the exclusion of AMD.

So Monarch got stuck with cpus that became cheaper and cheaper with each price cut AMD put into effect.......all the while sitting on a huge stock of cpus that became worth less and less.......and to remain at all competitive, Monarch began to have to sell their huge backstock of them at a loss.

Thus began the playing around with credit card charges....slow shipping....and the whole mess that ensued. Eventually, not paying their taxes in a timely fashion was their ultimate undoing....sort of like how a lot of high profile criminals get taken down. Not by arresting for their wrongdoings, but for not paying taxes. Ironic, sorta.

I remember there was another company that took care of warranty customer support for Monarch computers, it was another custom computer boutique.. Don't remember which though, you might want to do a search.

Wow, that's a lot of info. Where'd you get all that?

It's a shame they had to play around with people's credit cards because people can talk about it on the Internet and screw you. I believe they were the only ones around that assembled motherboard/CPU and heatsink and shipped it to you.

I just wish they brought newegg to Canada. It was announced they would come but they never did.

Or the original owner screwed the new owner, using dishonest but not outright illegal or fraudulent 'creative accounting' schemes to make the company look more sound financially with lower tax burdens and higher profits than they actually were. It happens.

There is that possibility thats true but it doesnt explain why the new owner was taking orders and charging people's credit cards and then *not* sending the product out. Money wasnt refunded either if the customer decided to cancel after not getting his/her order. There were heck of alot of those complaints. And it was rumored that this was going on even after the building was locked down by Police because the website was still up and running. You cant blame the previous owner for that bit of robbery.

Its like I said in my above post though in its last year of business Monarch was having problems before the sale. It was sliding fast and after the sale it fell into a deep hole. Its a shame too. At one time Monarch was one of the best in the business.

Old owner?

New owner?

Where do you get your information?

There was only one owner of Monarch.

Sterling's dad. Whatever his name was.

And when it came time for him to sell the company to help save the inevitable demise, he refused.

Anyhoo... AFAIK, extended warranties were handled by third party companies like Warrantech, etc. You need to find your warranty paperwork, find out who the warranty is with and contact them. If you don't have that paperwork.. then you're screwed.
