Mom indicted in deadly MySpace hoax

Cliffs:

# Indictment says woman posed as a teen boy, feigned romantic interest in girl
# Prosecutors: She used false data to create account to "harass, abuse or harm" girl
# Authorities have said she set up account to find out what girl said about her daughter
# Megan Meier, 13, hanged herself after hoax

Text

The woman needs to go to prison for a long long time.

meh... the mother should've leave the bullying to her daughter instead doing it herself.

but think of it this way... IF the guy was real, and he dumps the girl, the girl kills herself, is it his fault? actually, i've known a girl in real life who dumped her bf, and he shot himself and killed himself with a shotgun...

On the one hand, the mother is a sick bitch. She obviously went too far and totally out of her way to harass a young girl.

On the other hand, the girl took pretty extreme measures to solve her problems. I don't think the mother can take the sole blame for the suicide - there must have been something else going on there.

Seems like at worst, all the mom did was lie. MySpace's private policy includes not lying about one's identity, which the mom did, but seems like all that she should face is having the MySpace account closed? I fail to see what's criminal in this? Lying isn't a crime, unless under oath in a court.

Like Pepsei said, if the girl was so fragile that she was going to kill herself over a relationship, it was hardly the lying mother's "fault" that she ended up doing it.

A girl in my neighborhood killed herself by hanging because she got in an argument with her mom over MySpace. I think the Mom cut her off of it or something. Don't feel any sympathy for something that dumb.

Couldn't the girl just use the block button when that 46 year old woman had tried to harass her?
Seriously the block/ignore button was implemented for a reason.

What she did was malicious and horrible, but I don't think she deserves some big jail term. Just a couple of years to think about what her actions contributed to.

QFT. Mom shouldn't be punished for this legally. Just have her myspace account closed down.

no, the old woman posed as a young boy and formed an online relationship with the victim. then broke off the relationship in a bad way....

ok, maybe she should be charged with a pedophilia law.... do we have one?

she deserves scorn, not jail time.
she messed with a stupid naive girl. its mean, but its not a crime.
if the girl kills herself over myspace, her problems run a tad deeper than this.

The main people to punished here is the girl's parents for failure to raise and monitor their child properly.

I hope she gets some prison time. An easier solution would just be to drag her up a cliff and throw her off.

I just laugh at everyone involved..

The mother for badgering in stupid shit.
The daughter for caring so much about stupid shit.
The girl for killing herself for stupid shit (I laugh at her the most).

Do I blame the parents of the girl? Not really, I know there's some bad parents out there, but killing herself was still her choice.

In the end, there's so much ignorance in that situation that it can't help but pull out a chuckle...

this is why this will fail to convict on anything other than internet bullying.

there is no way that woman could have reasonably foreseen that her actions would lead to the suicide of the girl.

odds are that this suicide would have happened sooner or later when something else would have gone wrong in her life.

Could she be charged as a sex offender since she posed as a minor in order to have a relationship with a minor?

ok the mother is a sick bitch. But i agree jailtime is wrong.

BUT i do think she needs to sued in civil court and lose EVERYTHING she has and ever makes.

though since the "mother" told the kids to keep quite and delete the account then maybe they can nail her on that.

either way a sick story. i expect such crap from 13 yr old kids but not a adult.

Not unless it was a relationship with sexual intentions.
