About three black guys drove up behind her and manhandled her to take her purse. She let go on purpose after some struggle because she didn't want it to lead into a worse situation. I already suspended her cell phone and blocked all her debit/credit cards. Is there anything else that I should do? The police doesn't really seem to care. In fact, they never showed up to the scene.

Low lifes robbing a 60 year old lady. I freaking hate people sometimes.

Criminals need to be afraid of their victims.

Is she comfortable with a handgun and some safety instruction?

License plate number was 6RAX380 (California plate as she lives in that state)

anything that can be done with this?

You should be able to track them down easily if you have their license plate number. Hell, I even chased down some people who TP'd my neighbors house, got the license plate number and gave it to my neighbors. The next day we found out that the neighbors had called the police and narrowed it down to the home owner association director's kids.

Call the police and give them that information. The car itself might be stolen as well but you never know.

Get her a gun if she lives alone. They might come by her place to see if she lives alone and might try to take advantage of it. Have someone stay with her or tell her to sleep somewhere else for a couple of nights if she is alone.

i'd get their number, call them using skype (comes up as "unavailable") and say in a low, threatening voice, "you fucked with the wrong old lady" and hang up.

then, find their house, go to it at like 4am, prop two screws behind all of their tires (or in front of, depending on how they'll pull away from their dwelling), spraypaint "i stole a purse from an old lady" on the passenger side, and put a couple sheets of blank paper under the wiper blades on the driver side to distract the owner from the screws under his tires and the paint on the opposite side of the car.

then, wait until the next morning at like 3-4am to call the cops. that way, after the shitty day they had with their car, they have to wake up to cops at their door to arrest them way ass early in the morning.

crush their fucking spirit.

but, then again, if they live in the ghetto, just call the cops. no car shenanigans :)

The problem is, they have his mother's license and enough info to know where she lives.

having that gun in her purse would've done her a lot of good when they go up behind her like that...

does any woman going about their everyday life really want to carry a gun on them?

I know several that do. 2 are professional types that you'd never suspect.

Wouldn't wish that on anyone. It could have been much worse, though. She did the right thing by getting the plates and not giving up a struggle. Things can be replaced.

Sounds like your mom did the right thing to avoid it being worse. Cancelling the cards and all that make sense, after that there isn't much you can do, except follow up with the police to provide them with the plates of the car. Oh, and tell your mom to move out of that crappy state.
