i'd get their number, call them using skype (comes up as "unavailable") and say in a low, threatening voice, "you fucked with the wrong old lady" and hang up.

Or say...

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you're looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money... but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you turn yourself in to police now, that will be the end of it - I will not look for you, I will not pursue you... but if you don't, I will look for you, I WILL find you... and I will kill you."

having that gun in her purse would've done her a lot of good when they go up behind her like that...

does any woman going about their everyday life really want to carry a gun on them?

My wife carries a ruger LCP every single day. She doesn't purse carry as it is almost impossible to reach a firearm in your purse.

at least tell me you're in a city that needs it and not in bumblefvck suburbia

SC? Really? Is it cause everybody else has one? Honest question.
The 2 women:One works downtown Atlanta, sometimes late 10:00+. The other downtown Columbia.

Honest answer:Because they can, they're competent and if they needed a cop, they're 5 min away. Statistically, odds are they will never need one, a cop or a gun but...

I carry because mine is a cash business and I have to knock on doors to remind some that they owe me. Not the best neighborhoods.

Side note:The section 8 thread. Interesting the number of posts where $1M houses are next to a shack. Wonder what their crime rate is compared to the average.

I knew this was coming. Awesome.

Sorry to hear OP; you should contact the police. I would be most concerned that the perps know where your mom lives now.

If they expected a higher likelihood that their victim might be armed, they might think twice.

Sorry to hear that. I got robbed when I was a kid by two black dudes. It was a very traumatic experience. I felt really uncomfortable and jumpy for a long time. It has definitely made me more aware of my surroundings.

Maybe you have someone that can stay with your mom for a little while till she gets comfortable again.

Yeah, she should carry a gun, so next time it's not just a robbery, maybe upgrade to assault or murder, plus putting a gun on the streets. People who think carrying a gun is a solution are idiots

Before I would ever suggest getting a gun, I think it would be wise to look into self defense classes. There are many geared toward older women and probably the first thing they'll teach her is how to avoid such situations.

I know that she's going to have some sleepless nights replaying the attack in her head. Remind her no matter what, she must have done something right because she came away physically intact from a violet situation in which many others aren't so fortunate.

Sorry to tell you but I am pretty sure California is one of the few states where you cannot find out someone's name and address via their license plate from an online search. Even if you pay.
