Molex connector on ASUS A8N Premium SLi Mobo

nvm, I found the answer:

"ASUS EZ Plug is a 4-pin auxiliary +12V connector that is used to ensure voltage stability for your motherboard and for other installed peripherals."

A lot of motherboards had those as they were making the transition to the aux 4p connector, as a lot of PSUs didn't have them. I don't see why a new mobo would have that though, but it's probably just left over from that.

I think I read somewhere that it should be used if you go SLi w/2 video cards. Hence its location right by the 1st PCIe slot.
It insures more stable power to the PCIe slots apart from the power connections to the cards themselves ... er sumpthin' like that 🙂
It could have been mentioned in a review of an early version and has been made moot by a bios or revision upgrade. Dunno.
I skipped over the reference since I'm not initially planning SLi when I build on this board.

Happy trailz,

That is correct. I recall this being mentioned in some of the reviews of the board.

Some newer dual-16xPCIe motherboards (especially if also built for multiprocessor operation) have switched to the EPS12V standard (generally used for servers), which can provide more power to the board. Some consumer boards have compromised by sticking with ATX12V but taking an extra +12V feed from the PSU for use during SLI operation.

I think its to power your card you can plug in the molex from there and the other side into your card so you dont have to power your card for the psu instead powers from motherboard my shuttle has one but its a different input than that.
