Mold/Mildew in the silicone/sealent in our shower

There's what looks like mold or mildew inside/under the silicone or sealent around the base of our shower. It started in a small spot and seems to be spreading. We've used every type of cleaner that's made. It's not on the surface it appears to be in the caulk itself. I'm thinking about just removing the caulk and putting new stuff in but I'm concerned that I won't do as good a job as the people who installed the shower.

Any ideas?
 
Home depot has a pre-formed calking strip with adhesive backing that is guaranteed to be leak-proof. Makes for easy caulking replacement. Comes in 20' strips.

Also, try using that daily shower spray. Seems to work @ my place.
 
Two things:

1) Run the overhead fan to get moisture out during shower.

2) Change the temp in your place, either up or down because it is obviuos whatever temp you are running at now is perfect for growing mold in your bathroom.'

After you repair and clean it, I strongly suggest you use Tilex Fresh Shower after every shower.

Ever since I started using this stuff, my mold and soap scum woes have completely disappeared. It takes all of a couple seconds to mist your shower... and it keeps it remarkably clean.

Also, the suggestion to run your fan to vent the room every time you use it is a good one in the humid summer months.

 
Recaulking isn't all that difficult. It just takes a little time and work to make it look decent. See if you can maybe get some kind of acrylic sealant that can totally seal it up...Mold has a hard time growing on that...
 
just scrape out the old caulk, clean well with bleach (kills mould good) rinse well, let dry. Reseal with caulk. You wont get a good bead like a pro straight from the gun, so smooth it out with your finger. Wipe off your finger often as you smooth for good results. Redid my entire bathroom (bashed out to the studs and completely rebuilt) and thats how i did all the caulking..... result = great!
