Moissanite vs Diamond vs Sapphire - whatchou lady got?

or maybe some other type of stone like Emerald?

When I proposed to someone years back, she didn't want a diamond AT ALL, so I got her a Moissanite ring and it was lovely. She loved it! Amazing. But - that engagement didn't last. She was loony tunes.

The girl I'm dating now, who is far more sane and cool, said she could care less if the ring is diamond or Moissanite as long as it's purty. And she said not to spend more than 2 grand on it. That 3 grand was too much even.

How did I get so lucky to have met 2 SO relationships where they could care less about big fat diamonds?

I read a lot about Moissanite and it has some very cool properties to it. So who cares right? Well a lot of girls do. What kind of girls are y'all kickin' it with?

Both my wife's engagement ring and wedding band have diamonds.

I remember we were at Tiffany's when the saleswoman showed her the "eternity" wedding band that had diamonds going all around it. The sales lady pointed out that unlike a half band of diamonds, you don't ever have to turn the ring on your finger to have the diamonds face up. At that point, I sighed internally as I knew that's the one she would want instead of a regular platinum band.

On a side note, I did get a large refund check from Debeers a few years back for several thousand dollars from a class action law suit. The amount you got was based on how much you claimed to have spent on diamonds. I was surprised that they never asked for any receipts, so I could have said almost anything.

We were "poor" when we got married...way back in the stone age...she got a diamond...but a SMALL one. Since then, I've bought her lots and lots of diamonds. None HUGE, but all good quality.
I wouldn't even consider Moissanite or CZ. Hell, If I could find one...and could afford it, I'd buy a blood diamond...the bigger and bloodier the better.

My wife likes garnets.

Which garnets? There are about a million different types of garnet. My wife likes red rhodolite garnets...but I prefer the green tsavorite garnets.

My girl likes her stoneware food bowl. She also likes round stones of no particular kind because they roll well.

My wife inherited her engagement ring from her great aunt. Priceless.

That is the best indeed.

Ima take the 5 grand I save on a ring and take us on some sick vacations, all cause I found someone smart enough to not buy into the diamond marketing hype machine. Woohoo!

My wife has several diamond rings. 1 ct ring, 2.24 ct ring, and couple diamond wedding bands I don't remember how many ct. But she also has sapphire, emerald, and various pearl rings. And couple of plain 24k gold rings. To be honest, I wish I had just bought plain 24k gold with the diamond money. Today gold is worth more than 4 times what it was back then. The diamond and other gems? Probably less than 20 cents on the dollar on the resale market.

You're going to pay one way or the other. If it's not diamond or jewelry, it will be something else.

I do like all the other stones like sapphire and emerald, particularly sapphire. For looks.

That is a good point about diamonds - they hold little value. It's all a big scam really

once my lady heard charlie sheen talking about 7 gram rocks, that's all she wanted

i was like "uhh thats 35 carats i can't afford that who do you think i am, madoka? and besides he is talking about cocaine not diamonds"

but she would have none of it

Just ordered a Moissanite engagement ring. $1500 for a 1.4K equivalent stone with regular conflict free diamonds on the side of the ring. And she will love it 🙂

Moissanite is the 2nd hardest substance known to man, and possesses properties of fire and brilliance that are superior to diamond, plus the stone is nearly flawless at that price. Amazeballs!

Another similar strategy is to take her on a vacation to Antwerp. Biggest diamond district in the world. I've done it. She was very happy with the purchase.

For general jewellery the wife really likes amber, which suits her as she is a redhead.

It's an interesting stone as well as they are all different.

We picked something together, since it was going to be on her hand.

Originally, we were going to go with a sapphire, most likely synthetic, but after looking through our options and what pieces she liked most, we ended up with a black diamond with two standard side diamonds in a platinum band/setting through a nearby jeweler where everything is ethically sourced. And we kept it well within budget (which I had internally set ~$2k)

Moissanite set in platinum. We set a no diamond policy for our household, I won’t buy them and she doesn’t care. That is definitely a point in her favor.

Insistence on diamonds (natural at least) would frankly be a deal breaker for me. The economics and cartel marketing alone should make them untouchable to anyone of moderate awareness, let alone the now universally acknowledged pillage of some of the poorest parts of the world.

Most women are looney toons. The sooner you learn that, the more happy you will be 🙂

Since this thread got bumped, well we did get engaged in February, and are getting married next May, and she loves her Moissanite ring. It does look stunning, the stone has so much bling to it and everyone just says how nice it is, of course. Nobody has a clue it's not a real diamond. I dare say it's a bit more 'sparkly' than a regular diamond. Win-win.
