Module problem

I recently purchased my newest system, I install all the componets and everything worked great. I was able to install Vista 64 with 4gig of ram recognized and then when I went to add another fan to the sytem and start up it would not post. Sometime later I removed all my ram but one stick and it posted. Eventually I was able to add 3 sticks for a total of 3 gig of ram and reinstall (i was required to do so by the system)

Now everytime I try to add the 4th stick of ram it will not post. It is not the stick as i have swapped out other sticks and it is not the slot. I have tried adjusting my timings in my BIOS but I have had no luck.

My current system in a Q6600, 8800GTX Asus Pk5 Premium Black Pearl
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) x2 and a 620 corsair power supply

Current timings are 5-5-5-15

I'm pretty sure i must be missing something in the bios.

Please help!

Increase the Northbridge voltage gradually as high as you need to go to get it to POST.

Add a fan to the NB heatsink, too, it it is too hot to the touch.

And set the memory voltage manually to 2.1V, or a tad higher if needed.

I did as you suggested but my computer still does not POST with the 4th memory module in.

Any other suggestions?

Try the maximum voltage for the Northbridge.

Make sure that all the modules work fine - run Orthos and memtest with pairs of modules (first 1 pair and then the other pair) to eliminate the memory as a problem.

I do not know if you should increase the RAM voltage any higher, but you might wanna try that. Just checked your RAM - the Ballistix needs at least 2.2V. Try up to the maximum of 2.3V.

And try running them at 667MHz - it sometimes works, even if they cannot run at 800MHz.

Lastly... some boards will just not work with 4 modules of one brand of RAM, but will work perfectly with another brand. If you can, try another brand.
