Modular & Sleeved Power Supplies

I have looked at alot of PSU's while deciding on my new system. I am getting the OCZ Modstream. It has good reviews and many nice features. I have heard some bad things about the Ultra as well. There is also the Antec Neopower but I wanted to stay away from the dual power rails.

Well goody for me, I just ordered an OCZ Modstream 450W from Monarch, my ULTRA X-Connect is going back to zipzoomfly.

Besides the consistently high 12V rail on my ULTRA, I also noticed the connections are a little too loose, bumbing my case could cause one or more of these to come loose and cause some failures.

YES, I'm getting a Modstream. 😀

OCZ, dont get Ultra is a rebbadged powmax

Nobody knows for sure.

Now found on PowMax's website due to all of the confusion: "ULTRA X-CONNECT SERIES POWER SUPPLIES ARE MANUFACTURED BY ULTRA PRODUCTS INC."

Sorry to hear about your X-Connect. Although the connectors may feel "loose" I've yet to hear of a case of the connectors "falling out" of place (just the little plastic covers, unfortunately.) Concerning the high 12V; you might want to check that with a multi-meter. My 500W X-Connect says 12.4 in the BIOS, but reads a dead on 12.1V with a multi-meter. Also, as long as your within 5% of 12V in either direction, you shouldn't experience any ill-effect. With the high amperage available on the 12V rail, the seperate voltage rails and the continuous power capability of the unit, the voltage shouldn't waiver much at all, even under fairly substantial loads.

No doubt the OCZ is an excellent unit. I'm sure you'll be pleased with it if you do go that route.
