Modular Power Tools?

For around the house stuff, it is probably Ok. I just use a 2pc dewalt set that is drill/impact driver from Lowes. For everyday use of weekend warrior, I prefer dewalt or even festool, the later for its great dust collection.

Cordless is great for those quick jobs but I prefer corded for most settings. In the middle of a project I don't want to worry about low batteries. But for those simple tasks like putting up curtain rods or a couple screws into something it's convenient to have a cordless drill too.

What's wrong with Black and Decker or Craftsman? Do they just up and break and stop working? Do their batteries not last? Or do they not have enough torque or something? I honestly have no idea.
Black and Decker basically means pretty shitty tools. I'd rather get something dirt cheap at Harbor Freight since it's roughly the same quality.

Low quality tools. They're probably good enough for very light duty home owner stuff, just don't expect a lot out of them.

Regardless of the brand name perceptions the idea is poor anyway. The shape and the way you hold on to a drill handle works pretty good for drilling and for big 'ol vibrating donging. The same drill handle handle would totally suck for a router, jig saw, or circular saw.

I'd rather just use handheld tools for little jobs where these modular things might be somewhat useable.

ANd cost half as much.

The irony is black and decker used to be a damn good brand way back when.

I picked up both a Craftsman and a B&D circular saw at an auction. Both of those tools were old - I figured that it was a crapshoot if either actually worked. If you were to hold most brands of newer circular saws, and pull the trigger & then do it with either of those older ones - it's a night and day comparison. The older ones feel SO much smoother. (I'm guessing they're from the 70's.) I use the older ones far more often than my relatively new one.

For what they are they arent a bad idea. These are tools for people who might use a drill once a month...not the guy who is using them every weekend.

Though i will say cordless sucks for circular saws and things like them if you need them for any length of time. Again works fine for a couple cuts but you wont be doing tons and tons.
