Modular Power Supplies

Right now I am running a 400w case supplied foxconn psu, and I want to get a new psu. Modular looks nice and that is half (or more than half) of what I hope to accomplish with the new PSU. The X-Connect is the cheaper and better looking than the OCZ, but I have heard the OCZ psu's are better. Any help is appreciated.

Many people have either had problems with the Ultra X-Connect and/or are simply disappointed by how cheap it's made. Look into a Modstream or a NeoPower if you want a modular.

I had an X-Connect w/ blue UV, but I sent it back and got an OCZ Modstream because of many various reasons.

The OCZ Modstream gets my EXTREME Recommendation.

The best is one you make yourself.

Wouldn't it be kinda hard to make a not-modular PSU....modular? 😀

Your probably thinking about sleeving.

No... I do that too though...

I take the PSU apart. I clip the wires so the 4-wire molex lines sitck out to be 4" long from the psu (when its put together) and put one of these on it.

Then I make a molex cable with these...

and wire

Bam! Modular!

Did you do that to your PSU?
It would be easier to just buy one.

I suppose I could have bought a watercooling kit instead of doing it myself.
I suppose I could have gotten a case with a window already instead of get a custom laser etched one for my V2100b too.

Besides... when you do the PSU yourself, you get the heatshrink, connectors, sleeving, and fan all in the color/type you want.

I really doubt I could have found a PC Power and Cooling Turbo-cool 510 AG decked out in blue uv everything and a Delta fan premade.

Well the X-Connect is out, although it is completely modular and the best looking, there are too many bad things that have been said about it. The OCZ has sleeved cables which i like, and LED light, which I like. The Antec really doesn't have anything going for it in my opinion, no lights, no sleeves, less wattage, although some claim it puts out better power.

I've actually seen kits to make one modular. I think svc.com has them.

Should I get the 450w or 520w version, is it worth $30 for 70w? 520w would be nice just in case I every get a 6800 or something. Let me know what you guys think.

Maximum PC did a review on modular psu's a copule months back. The X-Connect got a 2 or something low. The OCZ got either a 7-8 and the NeoPower recieved a 10. Just thought I would pass it along

NeoPower doesnt even have sleeves, and I wouldn't even consider that PSU to be modular. There are only like 4 modular spots on it.

The neopower is the only modular psu with atx 12v v2.0 specs. Its not vital to a psu but if your buying new why not get it?
From silentpcreview:
Only the 2x12V, fan speed monitor and main 24-pin ATX connectors are on unremoveable cables.

There is no reason to have those modular anyways.

Only things I dont like about this psu is that the cables arn't sleeved and its expensive (lowest $101 on froogle)
I have also heard people say that the 24-pin to 20-pin ATX adapter is way too long.
