OP, is there any real official position on whether or not AT benefits from the number of users or hits on this forum? I get the impression that OT and P&N are kept around because the huge numbers of hits make $$$ to pay for places like Distributed Computing and Forum Issues. That's why to me the moderation policy seems designed to keep things controlled just enough so that no one leaves because things are too crazy, but as few people as possible get pissed off due to thread deletion.

I agree completely olds, I hate reading crap like "what should I have for lunch", or "what should I wear today." Too many users like to use it as a form of a personal blog and it definately detracts from the value of the forum as whole. I do remember that after that big crackdown back in October, I believe it was, those type of things were stopped and for a while the quality of the forums improved a great deal.
