Whether it was bad data or not, it doesn't matter anymore. The name-calling has gotten to the point I don't even want to bother trying.
How dare I say anything bad about nVidia. Bad me! BAD! :brokenheart:

On the topic of gamers, MSI brings their FX5800 Ultra (middle picture: far right system). Word is that NVIDIA has announced recall of the NV30 chips, so production for these products will be all but nonexistent. As a result, FX5800 Ultras will essentially become collector items. We heard that of the few samples that were sent out to the media by MSI, one of these ended up on Ebay for over 2000 USD, which gives you a sense of what people are willing to pay for this highly prized item. Granted the NV30 VPU has been a flop, but the main reason has been attributable to the whole 3DMark 2003 fiasco and the design of the VPU.

Oops. 🙂 Here comes Chizow frothing at the mouth........

It really isn't a good idea to "attack" other forum members . . . 😉

Damn! I sure WISH I had bought an UltraDustbuster. 😉

😀

Good point.... I shouldn't be so cheeky. 😉 But I think we all know there'll be a few specific people who will have a LOT to say on this subject.

And yeah... that's a nice, tidy profit on the GFFX! 😀 Can't wait until the offshoots show up though!

Well, there is the "edit" button before anyone else sees it . . . 😉

"offshoots" . . . you mean NV35?

Perhaps you should visit the War/ME forum . . . "cheekiness" is apparently alive and well there (along with plenty of "flames").

Heh, Explosive Labs, the #2 news source for the criminally retarded (behind only the Inquirer of course). 😛

bluemax, the funny thing is, I don't have a problem or preference with most products, I have a problem when disinformation (aka FUD) is spread by those incapable of filtering fact from fiction. Maybe if you (and the rest of FUD spammers) processed information with the 2 hemispheres in your head instead of the 2 you sit on, I'd never have to visit one of these posts.

For the record, NV30 wasn't recalled, it was discontinued to make room for NV35. The first and last run of NV30s are on the market as I'm typing this. You can buy one if you like, and pre-orders have been filled. Unless this author has some other definition of "product recall" that I'm not aware of, he's talking out of his ass. I breezed through that article and found it to be filled with similar inconsistencies. Much like yourself, he's just regurgitating FUD and propaganda without any true understanding of the underlying issues.

Gonna remember that one Chiz...I could get a lot of use out of it at work. LOL 🙂

I wouldn't have minded it either, except I was the butt of that joke. :frown:

At least now I know explosivelabs (never really heard of 'em before...) is NOT a good source of info.

I'll let NFS4 do all the posting of "interesting news items" from now on so Chiz can flame him instead of me. 😉

You got OWNED!!!!!

I have to aggree with you on this one. there are alot of people who take every little piece of info on the web literally, weather it sound completely false or not.

and the whole truth of the NV30 debacle is that NVIDIA could totally bomb this product cycle and still hold a firm grasp on GPU's sales over ATI so it couldn't matter less that the NV30 is relesed or not. the highend chips mean sh*t to the mass markets. the money is in the lowend cheaply mass prodused chips. so before any of you morons post FUD again maybe you should read up on the market, and take an economics class while your at it.

The truth is that ATI has been slowly taking market share from NV. ATI pretty much owns the laptop market, and is making great strides in the other markets as well. The Radeon 9000 is a much better Vid card than the comperable cards in that price range, read MX, cards that NV puts out. I am not a fan boy of either camp, the only reason that I know this info is because I did a report on the vid card market for my investments class last semester. BTW, I got an "A" on the paper. I am currently running a GF TI 4200 128MB card and will not be upgrading any time soon as it runs games good enough for me. Hell I had a 3DFX Voodoo 3500 before I built a new machine, and it was doing decently on most games like UT. If you want to talk about economics, try getting your facts straight.

I can't agree with this. It the short term this may hold true, BUT in the long term it's today's high end chips taht become tomorrow's low-end mass market chips. Nvidia may be stuck with a large hole in their low to mid end products in 6 months to a year. They may be forced to produce some parts at lower profits because they have shown nothing capable of competing with ATI at the 9500/9700 pricepoint.

Actually, this hasn't been true of nVidia for a while. The GeForce2Pro and Ultra never made it to the low end, nor did the GF3 or the GF3Ti boards. At this point nV is designing low end parts to be low end parts from day one. A year from now the low end nV parts are likely to be the FX 5300 and FX 5700 with the 52, 56 and 5800 long discontinued. ATi is starting to use this strategy also, although it isn't quite as pronounced as nV's. The R9500/R9500Pro is being discontinued to make way for the 9600. This will likely remain a trend, high end parts trickling down as is is likely through.

ATI pretty much owns the laptop market, and is making great strides in the other markets as well.

ATi dominated the market a few years ago. 3dfx may have been the king of add in retail boards, but ATi dwarfed 3dfx and nVidia not all that long ago.

So what's your advice then? Buy ATI? Buy Nvidia? Sell both? 🙂
