if your 'book is hanging before even the happy mac comes up you should try zapping your pram. press command + option + p + r at the same time with your powerbook off and keep them pressed down, now press the power button to turn on your powerbook. as long as you hold down the key combo it will try to start up but restart after a few seconds. let it restart about 5 times in a row. this should probably maybe fix it 🙂.
