I remember I used to get stuck doing data entry of mail in requests for catalogs at a company I worked for. I hated doing it, so to make it more fun I'd make up weird variations on the names when I entered them. It started when I got mad that I couldn't read anyone's name because they wrote it so illegiably. All I can remember is Bob's Small Engine Repair became "Billybob's Hillbilly Garage".

I never really had the balls to put something totally offensive like "Scrotum Bag" in there though. I gotta say I would have been laughing my ass off if that came to my mailbox. I mean, what harm is there really?

There is no real harm, but people see $$$$ when they see that.

i'm jewish. i don't know if i'd find that particularly offensive, but my reasons why are different.

the guy is jewish, right? he obviously appeared to be jewish if he was designated as one on his receipt. i don't know if you know about the restrictions on judaism, but you aren't supposed to eat at a non-kosher establishment.

walking in a non-kosher eatery and appearing to be jewish is a very stupid thing to do from a religious/jewish standpoint.

on the other hand, i only eat at kosher restaurants. it wouldn't offend me if "jew couple" was written on my receipt because there are plenty of other "jew couples" eating among me. what would bother me, however, is if i felt hostility from the wait staff because i am jewish.

this isn't a very intelligent statement. yes, it wasn't very smart of them to look like they're jewish.

if you seriously are interpreting my statements simply from a physical standpoint (like a big nose), you're a moron. i'm speaking about clothing. if you're walking into a non-kosher eatery wearing a yarmulke (head covering), you're going to be viewed as a "jew." if this guy did that, he's an idiot.

no, i wasn't interpreting your statements that way. it's stupid that you think it matters whether or not he's jewish and whether or not the restaurant is kosher and whether or not he was wearing a yarmulke. none of these things matter.

note that i said from a religious/jewish standpoint. there are religious laws revolving around the act of entering a non-kosher restaurant with the appearance of being jewish (reiterating: garb). i assume you have no idea of these laws, so before assuming, perhaps you would be better off educating yourself.

i don't think ANY of that truly matters. i am simply reiterating what is the law in the jewish religion. according to jewish law, he did something wrong. that is not an opinionated statement.

by the way, regarding your statement that "none of these things matter," actually, it does matter. it matters a lot. if a religious orthodox jew (or someone who appears as one) walked into a non-kosher restaurant and sat down next to you, would you, a typical individual, be a little shocked (especially knowing about kosher dietary restrictions and knowing that he's eating there?) i'd think so. if it is a non-kosher eatery and he had distinguished himself by whatever means as a jewish individual, he's going to be viewed as such. if that's a characteristic that stands out to help the wait staff locate each individual at their respective tables, so be it. it's like writing "red haired guy" on another receipt or "group of nuns" on a third receipt. note: in my opinion, i don't think it's derogatory. it's merely the identifying piece of information to assist a waitress. as to why it appeared on the individual's credit card statement, i don't know.
 
wow, not as rare as i thought.

i'd take an insulting credit card if they compensate me for my emotional damage. 😉
