I had a couple of the Iwills and was pretty happy with the performance... Its been so long, I don't really remember the specifics... But I never had any issues with the slocket.... Had one on a ABIT BH6 and one on a ASUS P2B..... They are pretty hard to come by, but you might post a WTB thread in the FS forum.

Just out of curiousity about your name... were you with one of the Battalions/Regiments? If so, which one?

considering the cost of cpu and slocket and the trouble.. its easier to get a frys combo for ~70 dollars, some even take sdram. not to mention they'll beat the pants off the slcoket upgrade no matter what. at 100mhz bus yuo could oc a very old celeron 500~mhz with 66mhz bus to 100mhz bus if your lucky, but those things don't oc well. the better ones are tuallies and oc using 133mhz bus which u can't do. i have 2 at 1.5ghz. but that was long ago when it was worth it. and it required a little tweaking. drop in solutions from powerleap cost over a hundred at the least. its not really worth thinking about doing unless your desperate to hold onto your m/b.

Looked at the thread. Does not look like Tually to me. If you need a Slocket, send me a PM. I have a good one.

T500 should be a 100 mhz fsb se440bx-2 board. they've worked with slockets before, but you need something more than just a sloket to go from a katmai or cumine p3 to a tualatin based p3

EDIT: with just 256 K cache that is a cumine, should work fine with a normal sloket

Armyranger4ever, I've had good success w/ slotkets. Mainly Abit and MSI. They are getting tougher to find. Here's a link to a Soyo slotket. You could also check e_ay for availability.

FWIW my original Abit BH6 is running an Abit SlotketIII and a PIII-650; my daughter has it at college. It will be coming home after this year and find service somewhere else.

I've only ever used one slocket to upgrade my PII 300 to a PIII 850 which was in a Supermicro BX board...the machine is still running rock solid to this day (my soon-to-be-father-in-law is using it daily).

Though I agree it would be easier/better to consider a mobo/cpu upgrade instead though with a Dell case that may not be possible.

I just built another system and have my old Dell with T board lying around. I have a powerleap slocket with a retail 1.4 celery that I may part with.

also have 512 of pc133 low density ram.

PM me.

Nope, 1.0A, I have one gathering dust for a HTPC I haven't gotten around to building yet. Now I'm thinking I might go with a P4 instead for more reliable MPEG2 recording (d'oh!).

Tualatins started at 1.0 GHz... they had both the Celeron and the Tualatin at 1.0 Ghz, with the Tualatin given the 1.0 'A' designation...

Edit: Oldfart will hook you up with a slocket if you need one.... good guy to deal with...

Ok...now to really show my ignorance. Apologies if this is in another thread, but can someone explain the difference between the Celeron and Tulatin? Is it just the L2 cache? If so, how major a difference in performance is there between the 2, say at 1.4ghz?

The Tualatins offered several advantages over the Celeron... More L2 Cache and Data Prefetch Logic add quite a bit of performance over the Celeron... It was essentially a P3 running on a 100MHz FSB...

The downside was that it ran at a lower voltage than the Celeron did, and many MB's didn't support it....

Here is a link with some info Review...
