MODS: Is this possible?!?

Hey... I've been a fairly regular trader on the FS/FT Forum for a while now, and I have a question:

Has anyone ever proposed a notification feature?

Things move so quickly on this board that when I'm looking for a specific item, I find myself refreshing and searching over and over again. It would be extremely nice if there were a mechanism in place so that new thread posts containing user-specified keywords would be sent via email/AIM/ICQ/PM or whatever to the user. This way, I wouldn't have to wear out my F5 button (and, mind you, the AT webservers) when I'm watching for a good deal on a Radeon 8500, for example.

Probably, I'm not that original and this has been suggested before... if so, what was the response?

Thanks! 🙂

Even if they did do this (which I don't think they will), it will have to be a subscriber feature. It would suck the bandwidth if everyone in the FS/T forum used this feature. It would most likely require full-text searching, which as you know, is a subscriber-only feature. I doubt Zuni will be too interested in doing this, but ya never know...

Don't see where full text searching would be needed... I'm just talking about keywords in the subject line, not the body of the post. For me personally, it would lower the amount of bandwidth I use, as I wouldn't be refreshing every few minutes for hours on end...

But, to accurately see what someone is selling, you have to look in the thread. The title may read "Lots of stuff for sale", and you wouldn't know what's in there. I'd have to think that it would be required to search at least in the first post. I think it would suck the bandwidth once a lot of people started to use it.

I dunno, but don't get your hopes up. It seems more trouble than it's worth IMO.
