Mods, could we do something about bumping ancient threads?

IMHO, if it's bumpable, then so what?
If the admin didn't want them bumped they should archive them.

Occasionally bumping something that old when you have something relevant to the topic is fine.

Bumping 3 topics that are at least 7 years old, especially with the same reply in each shouldn't be allowed.

It isn't. But I think they are wrong on the issue.

Is there a rule about how old a thread is before its off limits to post in?

I probably didn't need to bump every one of those...but then again isn't the big thing the new and improved search feature?

My $.02 is if its that is the biggest problem you have....then you have a pretty good life going.

Maybe he wanted drama like you did for posting this topic instead of using the "Report" link?

You have to really really really really really really really really really care about this website to actually complain about something like this. It's a website where strangers talk. Don't take it so seriously. I highly doubt this affects your life in any way.

And by "we" I mean "the mods".

3 similar topics, all of them at least 7 years old, (one last replied to in 01, one in 02 and one in 03) were all bumped to the front page by Rudeguy.

Bumping ancient threads just to post the same one-line reply in each should warrant some kind of mod action.

So, I wandered here in search of some sane reason for a random topic lock and stumbled upon this posting completely by accident.

The thread I posted in was LOCKED because "raduque" complained about an OFF TOPIC posting about movies someone else bumped from the grave? OH, THE HUMANITIES! 😛

Wouldn't a simple warning to the multi-bumping offender have sufficed?

The unknown locking mod also did not bother to mention WHY it was locked, either.

I swear, why do I bother to spend 15 minutes posting to a topic when someone can just come along and whine and "duque" all over my posting efforts and get it locked?

Doesn't VB have a feature where it shows a warning that a thread is very old when replying? I've seen this before. I've actually caught myself replying to super old threads as I find them searching and decide to reply then stop myself when I notice the date, but it's easy to not notice.

At one of my forums I had an issue with people bumping super old threads, so I just made it so threads more then 1 year old get locked. It shows up as "archived" instead of locked but basically works the same as locked.
