I have searching a bit and found there's a Travelodge kinda near the strip for 80 bucks a night (weekend nights), so that's a pretty good deal. is there any other you would recommend?

If you go toward the north end of the strip, between Sahara and downtown, there are a few motels (some chain, some dumps, some low-end, some hourly) along Main St and LV Blvd.

There are also a couple that are 5-10 minutes from the strip.

Howard Johnsons falls into that geographical area. 5 min walk from the Stratosphere

Some reason you don't want to stay in a casino?

There are some affordable casinos on the strip. (Boardwalk if it's still open, Tropicana). Close to the strip with shuttles would be the Orleans or Gold Coast.

Barbary Coast sometimes has cheap rates as well and is in a great location.

What strip you want to be near? There is the old strip and the new strip.

The Sahara is at the end of the new strip. Its a long walk or a cab ride up to the main part of the strip.

Check rates for Barbary Coast. If they're still as low as when I went ($45/night on weekday tho', in July, 3 years ago), then you can't beat the price/location combination. It's right across the street from Bellagio, next to Paris, Flamingo, etc.

I think you can poke about a bit in fatwallet's travel forum for some good links to las vegas hotel deals.

$80 and a little price shopping will get you a nice room on the strip. I've stayed at the Mirage several times for about $80. But you might as well forget trying to get that type of price on the strip on the weekends.

Look at Bourbon Street. Walking distance to the strip. Good rates & food.
Ceasars has an entrance directly across from them.

The best hotel in Vegas just off the strip and with great rooms, service etc. is the Gold Coast and at a very moderate cost. It even has free shuttle service to the Barbary Coast right on the strip.

Check out
Westgate Flamingo Bay, www.westgateresorts.com its a time share but you can get a week for a good price. Im staying in May with 6 people a
Suite with a King bed, 2 queens, jacuzzi 2 bath 104 a night
the 1 bedroom is around 75 or so. Check them out on expedia and call the resort directly and mention the price from expedia- they will honor it.
Check out Tripadvisor.com and search for the hotel.- Great reviews.

Try Imperial Palace across from Mirage. Most of the time it's less than $100.

Stayed at the La Quinta Inn...a block from the strip, great place to stay, very nice, and the rooms were reasonable.

Try the Tuscany Suites...its pretty nice with big rooms, and pretty cheap. Or the Stratosphere.
