so they can't figure out how to not have alltalk/mute dead people?

talk about being behind the friggin' curve. why do console devs insist on taking great games and making them technically inferior to ten year old half-life mods?

Yeah, I wish they would have implemented some kind of in-game party chat or squad system so that you can still setup a private chat with your friends but it's smart enough to know when one of you is on a different team or dead and will block communications with that person...

This seems like the obvious solution.

edit: Maybe this wouldn't be so easy... If chat has to go through Live, then I guess they'd have to work w/ MS on a way to selectively block people for only a few mins at a time.

I'm saying Infinity Ward won't lift a finger to do anything for anyone without being paid for it. If implementing party chat support requires any effort on their behalf, it won't happen for free.

:\ They released improvements to CoD 4 for free. WTF are you talking about?

They don't need to implement party chat support, they just need to stop prohibiting it (although the ideal solution which I posted above would require some minimal effort from IW, it would also require some effort from MS and probably will never happen).

what difference would it make if they muted party chat or forced party members to switch to the in game channel?

Now that I've started playing this game, I don't have that much of a problem with it. It still sucks that certain gametypes force you out of Party Chat, especially if you are grouped with people who aren't even playing MW2, but at least there are some gametypes like Ground War that allow Party Chat.

I'm glad that you know? 😕

I'm just saying that it doesn't really bug me. We normally have 7 or 8 in our party. We all join the party chat, then we all join a game lobby. If we are going to play ground war, we stay in party chat. If we are going to play anything else, we use in-game chat.

Just not that big of a deal IMO.

He's talking about selectively muting the people who are dead, just like what they do with game chat. That way you could be in party chat during the game (what everyone wants), but be muted when you die (what IW wants to prevent cheating).

I think he's wrong in thinking that IW "can't figure out" how to do it, because they did it right with game chat. I think that Microsoft just doesn't LET developers mute party chat (by design). Given the choice between letting developers mute party chat selectively vs being forced to not use party chat at all, I'll take the selective muting. It gives me all of the advantages of party chat, and it makes it more difficult to cheat.

If you're filling up an entire team with your party, of course you wouldn't think it's a big deal. You only have to listen to annoying people in the lobby, not during the game.

When I play by myself I plug a headset in but don't wear it. Is there a way to mute ALL players who aren't my friends JUST for MW2, not other games?

Leave it off in Hardcore and the objective modes, but there's no reason to have party chat off for plain TDM.
