Modern Warfare 2 Hackers?

Is MW2 worth it for the PC? My cousin and I were discussing about hackers being in the game and I almost thought it was standard for every game to come with punkbuster nowadays (or at least a huge release like MW2)

After a quick google search, of course PB is not included. So is there really a bunch of hackers on this game? Is it worth my 60 dollars?

My understanding is that because IW maintains all the servers, and disallows private dedicate servers, cheating and hacking are rampant. However, I'm sure there are hacks and mods that you can get to play on private servers though. If I recall, those were some of the first mods to be made for the game.

Still, lot of hoops to jump through for a 60 dollar price tag. I'd spend the money elsewhere.

Wow, just so stupid that they allow that.. Everyone knows that PC games can be hacked so easily, so not including PB seems quite ignorant to me.

I've just got a 25 dollar gift card to Best buy laying around so I was thinking about picking up a new game.. I've already got BC2 and it's fun, but having multiple games to play is even better.

It is a cheaters paradise from what I've seen. The cheats can even effect people not even cheating just by joining a cheaters server which you have no power over if you get put in one due to match making, the cheater can have the game set to where you kill 1 person and you become instant lvl 70 among many other cheats out there. Not sure how many have been taken care of but for I doubt any substantial number.

a buddy of mine got the pc version and can't even finish the ending - it crashed on the last level. seems the pc port is pretty bad. fwiw, i game on ps3 and 360 and there are cheaters on there too, just not as bad, at least when i last gamed mw2. been gaming bc2 and have seen on more than 1 instance that player x was banned due to aimbot - not sure if it is just a message for people thinking it can be seen by the server or is real.

the game uses VAC instead of PB. which is basically worthless from what I hear and see.

i was playing today and there was a guy with a blatant wallhack. he was shooting e through thick trees, through buildings, etc and there is absolutely no was he would know where I am. he was like 25 and 1 before I left the game. I made a comment and 1 other guy said the same thing, but no one else seemed to care.

I also think lots of people are using auto-knife bots. they have to because reaction time is not good, unless they also had wallhacks so they knew I was there.

It can still be a fun game most of the time though.

no problems playing it. maybe he better check out his PC before blaming the game.

The game is fun if you can get to play without hackers, shitty pvp connections, and the horrible FoV.

I've prestiged twice and have never gotten into a hacked server (that I know of, I've never seen any evidence). Sometimes there will be some obvious wall-hacking, but that's rare. Most of the "hacks" are either lag or the result of luck/observant players.

As for the port, it seems really good as far as ports go. It has crashed on me exactly one time. Mass Effect, GTA IV, and Saints Row 2 are far, far worse.

I've found only a handful of obvious cheaters since playing on day zero. There may have been others not using aimbot but using some kind of texture or wallhack.

It includes VAC instead of PB, which I think is better in general.

Overall it plays fine for me and never crashes. Just I'd rather have dedicated servers.

i've stopped playing mw2 for the most part, seems every other game now has people hacking

by all means get it for the single player or if you have friends to play multi, but pubbing it is pretty brutal

wait for a price drop if it comes

Wow really? You must not play much. Even PCgamer podcast states its overrun. I played in two games today with obvious cheaters, like not even questionable. Vac only detects known processes, if you use something that you wrote - no detection.

When I played the game back in December/January, I played predominantly Ground Wars where I encountered an aimbotter every 4-5 games. Some days I'd go 3 games in a row with a different hacker. From what I hear Team Death Match and other settings that have less max players will be free of hackers. It's probably because hackers rank up fastest in Ground Wars since there's a lot more people to kill.

I find the hacking in MW2 to be less common than CS: S. The primary difference, of course, being that they can be banned by a mod or votebanned by players on CS: S.

Overall it hasn't ruined the experience for me in MW2. It's frustrating to have a match ruined because of one or two people blatantly hacking, but generally a quick lobby change yields another dozen hack-free games. I've even been accused of hacking on a couple of occasions myself (the kills rack up fast with silencer + cold blood pro + ninja pro ;)) though I'm very much against it. I play strictly Hardcore Team Deathmatch.

My primary complaint with the game is the matchmaking system. It's not the worst I've seen (better than broken server lists!), but at the very least they need to include a way to "thumbs-down" a map or two, so you'll never see it in the rotation - similar to what Blizzard did with Warcraft III.

If I never had to play Estate or Wasteland again I would be extremely happy.

What servers are you thinking IW maintains? The only official servers are the ones that complete the matchmaking. Servers in the game are listen host only.

There are, or at least were some hacked dedicated servers before. However I am unsure if on those there is even a built in banning feature. The problem is VAC sucks worse than PB and this is the most popular FPS title, worst protection for the most popular game is not a good way to go.

They don't rank up though, they simply download the level hack.

I gave up on Ground Wars and went to merc TDM. So much less hacking. I encounter at least 75% less blatantly noticeable hackers going 31-0 with all headshots.

Interestingly played a guy named Invidia yesterday. Walling with a sniper through walls and into the head, intentionally obvious. Did the game finally break you? :p :)

I thought the single player was worth it. I stopped playing the multiplayer many months ago.

I haven't played in 3 weeks, but before that I played 9/10 nights since I bought the game at midnight release. While I've heard lots of cheaters in the past few weeks, I've always heard that in forums.

I don't play Ground War (I mainly play TDM) and as a result of that, I see much fewer cheaters.

I've only found a handful, meaning obvious aimbotters. Perhaps there were others (some suspected texture/wallhacks) but I'm not quick to criticize people as cheating as I've played the game tons and know some shit is just weird. Heck I've even been accused of hacking and I'm not very good at the game most of the time.

Sure VAC only detects known cheats, but the vast majority of these people are hackers but idiots downloading cheats so I think VAC is plenty capable. Better than PB that's for sure.

Ive played CS competitively since 1.5 and I can guarantee you there are not that many hackers as you think there are. I don't want to strait up say your bad, but many people that never go into leagues cry hacks whenever someone CAL-M+ joins the server.

Fortunately for the pubbers most CEVO-P players stay out of your games and stick to their match servers.

PB does a lot more than VAC, both use checksum but PB is screenshot capable - although easy to work around as well. Also for certain changes in game settings PB will kick you. VAC doesn't the game just constantly attempts to fix your setting which doesn't work if you set something to reset it or for a while you could even just set your cfg to read only LOL. Sorry, PB is not a perfect solution but it is better than VAC IMO.

Also PB does instant bans whereas VAC sits and waits to do a mass banning. I prefer the instant solution.

It's the hackers that are less obvious that frustate me more. They're the ones using they key activated hacks where the aim is assisted and not completely automatic.
