Any recent modern military FPS games out? Played CoD4, both Rainbow Six Vegas games, both advanced warfighter games.

It needs to be with modern real world weapons, enemies, and locations. No sci-fi BS. Can also deal with mercenaries, counter terrorist groups, etc, but still needs to be real world stuff.

Arma2 demo sucked ass. Counterstrike sucks.
I'm looking for games that are already released. Already have Modern Warfare 2 on pre-order anyway.

I forgot that Alpha Protocol is coming out next week. Not quite FPS, but might work for me. I need to see reviews first though.

Combat Arms! Free and fun! Pretty good production values, too.

bad Company 2 is coming out in march 2010. Might wait for that.

Operation Flashpoint 2 if you need your fix now, and Modern Warfare 2 in Nov.

Hmm, I thought Alpha Protocol got delayed.

If it did, I missed it.

Alpha Protocol is having some issues i think. A Sony internal memo that was leaked was scathing and then came rumors it won't come out on Oct 6th, there's guesses that ti will come out between the Oct 27th and some as far as June 30, 2010.

Think about it this way, nobody has heard any news, no reports of the game going gold and being shipped to retailers, which considering it's only 4 days before release should have happened by now.

Sony is being tight lipped and not commenting, neither are Obsidian.

Uh...no. Not if you like realism. If you like bunnyhopping/spam etc, stick with COD/CS:S

The engine has its problems, but amazing game if you have a decent system.

Battlefield 2 is still a great game. More for MP though.

The only decent EA Battlefield game is Bad Company on PS3 and even then I suck at that because of the controller.

I hate BF2 and anything related to it with a passion.

Grabbed Delta Force Extreme off of D2D for $5. wow, what a waste of money. Way too easy.

Graphics suck, but of course it's an older game too, but I wasn't too worried about that if the gameplay was fine, but like i said way too easy.

Pontifex, your best bet will be waiting until Bad Company 2.

Modern Warfare 2 looks tempting, but I'm going to wait til the price drops down--I do like the inclusion of some sexy new weapons.

I tried Far Cry 2 and didn't enjoy it. I briefly considered getting it when the Fortunes Pack came out with the silenced shotgun, but decided against it as I couldn't get my in-game character a wedge hairstyle so I could look like the assassin from No Country for Old Men.

What about Insurgency? It's a Half-Life 2 mod, supposedly good, I myself never played it but I thought I'd point at it.

I tried it, it's ok, definitely different, but I on't think it would be to the taste of many people. It is more hardcore than I think most people look for.

Let me put it this way, I don't understand the appeal superrealistic FPS games, 1 hit kill, 300 buttons to map, more recoil than even real life, it's not something I think I'll ever understand because it feels like work.

I'm in the Army and I don't think I've met really anyone that enjoys OFP or Arma all that much. We have a lot of guys that play Halo3 or COD4, BF2 maybe even GRAW/GRAW2 but nobody that really gets into the sims. It's just one of those things, I don't want to ride 30 minutes out to a firefight to get 1 shotted. If I wanted to do that, I can do it in real life through FTX and deployments. I guess it just doesn't feel like a game at that point, something you know you sit down at to relax and blow off some steam.

When playing the game is more complex than doing it in real life, I think there comes a serious design problem and to me at least and a lot of people I know, OFP/ARMA2 just seem masochist and more boring than actually doing the real thing.

I know what you mean and at first glance I feel the same, to be honest. But "games" in a general sense are there to entertain, and if games "close to" real life, thus being closer to a simulation than the broad "common" game is what entertains certain gamers around then it's certainly not affecting anyone around. What I mean is that there are many choices for the first-person-shooter genre, obviously, and one of them is the "simulation" type, whatever is the extent at which they successfully simulate/imitate real life situations and risks, if the gamer playing it is entertained by that specifically then so shall it be, but that specific type of FPS games isn't very common.

Another such game that comes to my mind is the S.W.A.T. series, especially the third one, which I still own to this day (but haven't played in ages). It's not about war, but it sure is very challenging and it puts the player in very difficult situations where making the wrong choice will simply mess up the entire mission, and lead your teammates to their death. I liked S.W.A.T. 3 and also Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear (on the Dreamcast), they're the only type of FPS games I remember having a lot of challenge in, as in much more so than any so called "tough" action-oriented shooters like Halo even on Legendary difficulty or similar games and settings.

May I ask the reasons for this passionate hate for BF2? Just curious really...
