Are these just funny mod quotes that have been inserted into people's signatures, or do the moderators have some inside joke comments they make.

I just don't get it. :(

Expecting to be smacked by a baby beluga.

:)
Don't even try to "get it". ;)
Just go with the flow, and realize some people have a weird sense of humor. :p

Yeah, and Figaro is from the Bugs Bunny cartoon. The origins of fish slapping (trout esp.) are from further back than that. I think Monty Python is responsible for the original meme, but it was kind of popularized in geek culture because it was one of the built-in "/me" actions in mIRC (might have been some Usenet involvement too).
That is where I first ran into the "trout slap" ... on IRC back in 1997. I chatted with PIRCH and that was one of the default /me actions included. I thought it had something to do with the irc client being named PIRCH.

My only comment on moderator comments is that they are never, ever, ever, ever, ever funny or witty and everyone and their dog seems to think they are. It's like being bolded makes them automatically funny or quotable.

Fail.

I may have been here for two years, but most of my posts are in the buy/sell forum. I only got posting recently in the off-topic community and my post count has gone up.

No, I am not trolling. I just see strange mod comments and was asking if there was some inside joke that I was missing....maybe some forum legends and tales that I was not privy too.

I see that smacking with a fish comment so often, I was wondering if it meant something else, because the comment made by the user is not usually anything bad or not within forum guidelines. The same with the FBI wanting someone's IP address?

Forgive me if I have offended you. :)

I didn't read the thread, but I wanted to point out that you are probably reading someones signature rather than an actual mod quote. People who get a mod sighting usually put them in their sigs to make them feel cool.
