Modem troubles after LAN setup...

I helped my friend set up his lan on saturday, and all was well. Today we changed it over to TCP/IP instead of NETbeui as hes probably gonna dabble with ICS. However, whilst his machine can connect to the net using a modem hooked up to it, his brother comp, the other PC in the network cannot. It dials up, then throws an error saying that we should check the 'server type' in the network connection (im assuming it means dial up, as im trying to establish a dial up) as it could not negotiaite a dial up connection with the recieving computer with the protocols specified. There is nothing out of the ordinary listed in his dial up settings. In fact, all the settings (dial up and network) is identicle to the other pc apart from the obvious changes for IP. Ive quadruple checked it and dont have a clue. Any ideas ?
Incidentally, the network runs fine, had some high qualty DFLW sessions :p

Also, this is all in Win98, but hes got Whistler Pro B1 as well, and when its running his brothers PC doesnt see the drives on the share, only My documents etc. If you type in the address in network naighbourhoud ( eg \\compname\c$ for access to c drive)then it will go in alright, but there is no 'C' or 'D' etc listed in the initial network neighbourhood window. I have set up Whistler with the correct permissions etc so as to allow him access from his win98 pc's account. He does get in, albeit with a quirk:p Any thoughts on this too?

Thanks In Advance.

you have to share the drives to see them in Net. Neighborhood..
hopefully your ISP didn't start changing config's on you, just make sure (unless it's a Juno, and compuserve I think have different servers,) that it's PPP. most ISP's use DHCP (for dialup anyways) so choose server assigned IP, and you should be OK, honestly, unless someone knows if your ISP has some funky settings or not, you may just want to call their tech support, most ISP tech support have pretty mellow people @3AM, I learned a lot from them a couple years back.
Have fun and good luck...

The win98 LAN setup is completely fine, its when whistler is the OS thats loaded that its slightly wierd. The drives ARE shared (shared by default i beleive), and are accessible from the 2nd PC, but only if you type in the address in network neighbourhood on the other PC (win98 only) (e.g. \\compname\c$ will get the 'c' contents to show, but their is no actual 'c' drive letter folder in network neighbourhood ).

As for the dialup, its PPP, but like i said this doesnt appear to be anything ISP related as the first comp was setup in the exactly the same way and works fine with the lAN and a Modem. It would seem to be a little f*ckup on windoze part thats all.

$ signs in the name denote a hidden share. Therefore as far as Network Neighborhood is concerned, there are no shared drives (visible). Try doing a regular share on another folder and see what happens.

Edit: Has Microsoft finally erased my DOS past? (Saying folder instead of directory) Scary.
