I have the Actiontec 56k Internal PCI Call waiting modem. I already have crappy phone lines.....but I was connecting at 26400 all the time......but now I am connecting at 7200 and it sucks! I know I can connect faster because I put my Supramax in there and it connects at 26400....I would use it but half the time I cant get a dial tone. I have to pull my phone line out of the modem and then put it back in for it to work. That gets old This modem works great other then the crappy connect.

Does anyone have any ideas or anything? I bought it June 17, so Im not so sure it has a warranty still.

Any info or help would be great. Thanks

have you tried going into "configure" for your modem (it's in the dial-up networking properties for your DUN connection)

in there, there's a little pull down menu with a "max connect speed" - type thing listed. it might be set too low. usually, you want to set it to 115 or whatever the max is.

You need to tweak the modem by modifying the initialization strings. You can go to www.tweak.com or www.modems.com to find a special initialization string for your particular modem.

As for the Supra, I used to have the sam problem with mine. From Diamonds FAQ the fix is to set the PnP option in bios to NO instead of Yes. So far it's been working great.

You need to call your phone company and ask them to test your line to see if its bad. Tell them you use the phone for the internet and your connection is bad. If they run the test and its on the outside they have to come fix it their selfs for free(well they are suppost to) but if its from the box to the inside of your house you will have to pay. So make sure you check your phone jack to make sure the wires have good contact.

My phone line use to connect at crap speeds but after they fixed it I get a constant 46000-48000. Ain't saying thats the problem but call them as tweaking your modem won't help I don't think.
