Modem Problem

HELP!!!!

I'm currently using FreeWWWeb and a SupraMAX WinModem under '98se.

For some weird reason, every 30 secs it'll just sit there and won't fetch any URLs (4 about 20 secs)...after this idle period it'll fetch any URLs I want...then it'll just sit idle for another 30 secs. It'll repeat this cycle over and over and over again...til I'm fed up and switch over to Win2K.

I've looked on the MS website plus Dianmond's, but couldn't find any reference to this problem.

I know for a fact that's it's not the modem and it's not FreeWWWeb, cuz everything works perfectly and faster under Win2K.

My 'puter specs:
Abit BP6
Dual Celeries 400 Mhz
(2) 20 Gigs Maxtor ATA/66
Voodoo 3 2000 AGP
128 SDRAM
Linksys 10/100
Real Hollywood Mpeg+
SONY DVD Drive
SONY CDRW

If you used the correct drivers for each OS and it's the same story in either Win 2K or Win 98, then it's got to be the servers at FreeWWWWeb. Doesn't it? Perhaps the ISP is juggling all those customers-looking-for-freebies to balance their server load.

Try this.This hack really improves your web browsing experience. You will find that web pages show in a fraction of the time they used to. Users of modems and ISDN lines will notice the most dramatic speed increase, ADSL and cable users will also enjoy a hefty boost.

It does however make you a bandwidth pig - if your happy to suck down more than your share of server bandwidth then the hack is cool....

How does it work? Simple really. Internet Explorer 4 and 5 are designed to comply with Hypertext Protocol 1.1. This dictates that the web browser should draw no more than two streams of data from a Web server at any one time. The thing is, your browser is more than capable of getting many more streams than that, and if you want to increase the number it's looking for, you vastly speed up the whole web page down load process.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000006

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000008

If the DWORD isn't there just add them.

The values you enter should be 6 Decimal for MaxConnectionsPerServer & 8 Decimal for MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

and this will allow you to load up web pages faster in IE only? or just downloading anything in general, like from an FTP site using a third party program such as CUTEFTP.

Shagga
I entered the DWORD values as you have them and I see a big difference in web pages coming up.
I'm just wondering..what do you mean when you say the value should be 6 decimal or 8 decimal

Just Make sure that you select Base - Decimal and then type in 6.

Do the same for the other key also. Works really well doesn't it.
