Hope someone can help.
I have an Actiontec 56K modem - internal - call waiting variety.
It functions fine after I boot in the morning - and most of the day. If I leave the puter on and leave - come back - often as not when I try to log on - I get
'Error 630 - port not available due to hardware failure'

Question - what is causing this? I am thinking maybe that it may be in my power management, and I will fiddle with that - but I wanted to see if any good ideas are out there for fixing this.

Thanks,

Do you have a program that wants to dial out when your not around? Gator, comet cursor, kazaa, and many others, can all do odd things.

I've seen that error, but usually you can't dial out at all. Sometimes setting up another connection in the dial-up networking folder helps. It could be a bad modem, but that seems unlikely since it works after a fresh start.

Another thought. Do you have a virus creating trouble? I've seen them cause that error, but again, it doesn't connect at all.

Thanks for the reply.
I have the Kazza - I will ck. that out, along with making sure there is no virus prob. Modem works fine majority of the time - so it should be OK.

Thanks again.
