hey everyone, long time no post, but i ran into a large problem after working on my moms computer.

she has:
celeron 466 w/ generic slocket
supermicro p6sba (link)
256MB crucial pc133
maxtor 10gb 5400rpm
dlink dfe530+
creative 128 pci sound
creative modem blaster 5630 (link)

the problem is, windows cannot use the modem, whenever aol (yes laugh now) tries to dial out, it cannot, it can initalize it, and says its dialing, but it isnt. i checked the phone dialer and it cannot get a signal out.

any tips short of the usual reformating, my mom has many documents and doesnt wanna risk it, and i dont wanna listen to her nagging.

any tips? tips would be nice.

thanks everyone

Try re-installing the modem/modem drivers. Did you move the modem from the original slot it was in? ..???Network card and a dialup 56k (AOhelL)modem??? 😕

I'm not an expert on AOL. I just install it for the better half and use my ISP.

The only suggestion I can think of is to start up AOL, click Setup, click Expert Setup, select Devices-modems,etc. I have AOL 5 installed and the only two things that are showing are the modem and TCP/IP. The latter depends on what you chose during setup. With DSL, I'd think that you'd want TCP/IP there.
