I have a strange problem that I can only connect once through my modem to my ISP only once per boot. If I were to close my connection to my ISP and try to dial in again it will always hang in the verifying password stage. This also happens when I dial into my college modem pool.

Try add ATZ to the Initialization Strings. Hopefully this will work. Or else try AT&F1

I have a good qulity modem. A ZOOM 56k. I have looked on the ZOOK web site and found that new drivers for my model are not avaible of XP...yet. I think the modem is not hanging up after I have disconnected from the internet. Any more suggestions?

I too have a similar problem. I have just upgraded to WinXP Pro edition from Win98SE. I noticed that I have to leave my modem on for XP to be able to detect it. This is a little annoying as I have to either leave the modem on all the time or reboot with it switched on everytime I want to get online. Win98SE was not like that. Is there a setting of some sort to cure this? I can log on and everything works fine. It?s an external 56k US Robotics modem and XP automatically installed the drivers during setup. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have not already fixed the problem, you should install the latest drivers available for your modem. If you can not get xp drivers try the latest windows 2000 ones... Good Luck!

If your modem manufacturer does not have the drivers for WinXP or 2000. Change the modem to use Standard 56000 Bps Modem settings. I have an OLD ISA modem USR 33.6 Voice modem and there is no Win2000/XP drivers for it, have been using the Standard Modem Drivers since. No problems with them. Sometimes just need to change the Init Strings to ATZ. I use Cable Modem for internet, so the USR modem is just used for Faxing and remote dial-up to my work.
