Hi! I just had a look at the prices of AMD64 prices (in 1000 quantities). I noticed that the Model 148 is the same price as the 3400+ at $417. Both chips run at 2.2Ghz and 1MB of level 2 cache, i know that the opteron uses dual channel buffered memory and the 3400+ uses single channel unbuffered. I remember reading before that the 148 is simply a rebadged FX51? I haven't seen any games benchmarks for the Model 148, but assuming its the same of FX51 it should kick the 3400+'s ass? Opteron boards and buffered memory costs a bit more, but would the money be justified by the perfromance? Also on that page, the FX53 costs $733 and the Model 150 cost $637, ain't they the same chip?

I know this won's matter too much once socket939 comes out, but I just wonder if there is a bargin out there with the 148 (or even the 146 at $278)?

I am new to this forum... so hi to all you established members and thank you for your comments. Does anyone know what the heatware box is for in the sign up page? I looked in the helps page, but it doesn't mention is all? Thanks

No, in most areas the FX doesn't significantly beat the A64 when both have the same clockspeed. skt939 has showed the same lack of performance boost thus far, particularly for gaming. The 3000+ or 3200+ are the better choices as "bargains" go to my mind, because they are substantially cheaper but have good overclocking averages of approx. 2.4ghz on air.

If you trade on these forums in the for sale/for trade forum, heatware is an evaluation system like Ebay's but much more reliable IMO. If you have a heatware acct. and evals you can link to them for other members to see when buying, selling, or trading with you. BTW, welcome to the forums :)

Would the Fx53 have the same performance as a Model 150? Do they have the same CPU-ID? Why would some more pay $100 just for the FX logo?
