Modding the Zalman ZM-MFC1

Does anyone know how to get the knobs off? I found this site on how to do it and I want to get rid of the annoying led's, but I can't figure out how to remove the knobs since they're wider than the holes they go through. Anyone done this before?

What is the difference between the MFC2? I modded mine (put another switch in), and the knobs just pull off...
