modding my xbox

I was reading on the internet about how you can mod your xbox without a mod chip by getting the Mech Assault non platinum game, downloading some programs, and getting a memory card. Has anyone ever tried doing this or knows alot about it? I don't want to buy the game and memory card if it's not going to work.

Thanks.

Check out xbox-scene.org

They have guides on how to do it.

You can do it without a modchip, but it's not as easy as you'd hope, and cannot be undone (I don't think). You also won't be able to go on Xbox Live anymore if that's a concern for you

A softmod? No. I installed a solderless modchip in mine.

But you need to have access to an already modded Xbox in order to do the softmod as I recall, so if you don't, it likely isn't going to be your best option.

But check out the guides on xbox-scene.org You can figure out if it will work for you.

But, can't you just use the Mech Assault save hack?

Yes. But why would you do that? No-solder chips are available and those are a breeze to put in. Gives you more flexibility. After you factor in buying MA and a Gameshark thing, you aren't saving much money with no-solder chips as cheap as they are now days.
