Modding an Antec TruePower 330W with new fans

The SL350S that came with my case is making an electrical tone so I need to send it back. In the meantime, I'd like to mod an Antec TruePower 330W with a quieter fan. The cost of good 92mm fans ($20) is prohibitive when I may get the SL350S back and prefer it anyway so I'd like to eliminate the 92mm fan. I've already opened it and see where it will be pretty easy to just change out the fans, but if I want to not plug in the 92mm fan, will I need to do anything special to get the PSU to work? I can't try this out for another day or two, so I'm just trying to prepare.

Apparently you haven't been to http://www.bgmicro.com - you don't have to spend $20. for an excellent 92mm fan. These were made for Aavid/Thermalloy and are dual ball-bearing. "FAN1060 - 92x92x25mm(3.62x3.62x1"). 12Vdc, 160mA, 2000RPM, 37.50CFM, and 25.0dB-A. FAN1061 - 92x92x25mm (3.62x3.62x1"), 12Vdc, 220mA, 2500RPM, 47.20CFM, and 27dB-A. 99cents each!!!
. Splice one in (apparently these have no attached connector - just the lead wires) and you're good to go. At that price, get one of each...

Thanks, but, somehow, I doubt those fans are any better than the one that comes stock on the power supply. I can find a decent low noise 92mm fan, but I don't see the point unless I'm stepping up to something that will be signficantly more quiet like a Nexus or Acoustifan or Papst.

$20 for a quiet 92mm fan? Even my 120mm Papst wasn't $20. You can get a 92mm L1a for only 8 bucks @ Directron. Highly recommended.

Only the Panaflo 80mm L1As are quiet. The 92mm and 120mm are reportedly much louder even when undervolted.

You just won't find quiet 92mm fans for much less than $20. I can find dozens of them priced under $10, but they're all too loud for a silent PC. That's why I'm trying to get rid of, for now, the 92mm fan on my PSU.

Just full of excuses, isn't he?.. You could always wire the PSU fan (one of those Aavids) thru a manual adjuster like the Zalman Fan Mate so you can make the best compromise between cooling and noise.

I could do that with the stock fan too. The whole point of shelling out $20 for a nice fan is that it won't exhibit the clicking or motor noise that cheaper fans do when undervolted.

So am I right in assuming the PSU won't fire if the 92mm fan is missing?
