I'm not familiar with modding X-Boxes, but I've successfully modded Playstations. I'd be up for doing the modchip installation for super cheap (read my signature). Oh, and pictures of my last PS2 install are here.

What sort of program would I need to install to rip the games? I am assuming you can also store dvds on there as well.

DVD2Xbox works extremely well for ripping games to the drive.

If you want a cheap solderless chip go with a spiderchip. Its 30 bucks at console source and all you have todo is screw it to a header connector and put 5 wires through 5 holes on the mobo.

Install spiderchip
load any bios you want on it (download one from www.xbox-scene.com and copy it to a cdrw with a dummy file)
boot the xbox and you will get a load bios message, pick it and the chip will flash itself with desired bios.
now take out stock xbox hdd and put in new one
boot xbox and when modchip dashboard appears select lock hard drive (this has to be done or new drive will not work on xbox)
also by doing this you bypass the eeprom which is a unique key that are on the stock xbox hdds which is used to recognize the hdd as an actual xbox hdd.
and you are done.

Now you can get a xenium ice which is also solderless and has already a good bios on it which will let you lock and unlock hdds but its also 55 bucks and not worth the 25 extra bucks when you can just flash a spiderchip to have any bios you want.

Ohh yeah and if you want a very cheap way to mod your xbox (around 7 dollars) pm me and i will give you a quick tutorial on softmodding which requires no soldering and just opening of the xbox to only install a new hdd. And if you already have a copy of splinter cell, mechassault (non plat hits version) or 007 agent under fire (non plat hits) it will cost 0 dollars heh

Question about modding. I have a stock Xbox right now and I have been on Xbox Live for about 3 years now. I'm planning on putting in an X3 and would like to upgrade to a larger HD. However, I've read on Xbox-scene that MS takes snapshots of the hardware configuration when you first sign on to Live and because of that they can detect if you change any hardware and then ban you. Is this true (or still true)?

If that's the case, what are my options? Installing the X3 and new HD and then buying a new EEPROM? Or is there some work around at this point?
