After having the optimus freezing issue with my Dell XPS, I'm not surprised this is happening.

I think we can label the idea that the Nvidia 320.18 WHQL is doing weird things to cards:

No. This is how AMD's Advocacy group works. Stealth. Anonymity. Secret. Hidden. Spread fear and loathing of competitors products.

Not what focus group does. Not even in the same universe.

If you started a thread asking how many members here signed up to join the AMD advocacy group, you'll get many people here saying they did.
If you posed a second question in that thread asking how many were actually accepted into the AMD Advocacy group, you'd get nobody. Crickets.
They NEED their anonymity. Can change screen names and Proxied IP addresses all they need to. Unlimited.

Oh the irony. :D

I'm sure all the people reporting problems are on AMD's payroll...oh wait AMD is about to go bankrupt so they can't afford any more "staff" anyway...must be giving away Never Settle Reloaded "Stealth Edition" as compensation.

About GPUs being damaged...hope it's not true. I certainly wouldn't want my hardware damaged by drivers and don't wish that on anyone else.

CLEARLY not what I was conveying Thilan. But you run with that and make it seem like it was, ok? Carry on.

You are making a big deal about this AMD advocacy program witch only mission seems to get people with networks to review their products.

We demand complete transparency in disclosing product sources, which is an FCC requirement in the US, the jurisdiction of our corporation. That is the same standard to which we hold all reviewers, advocacy program or otherwise.

This response was to our friends at Alien Babeltech (apoppin) when he questioned AMD about. Shouldn't there be evidence about the program being something else before you scream wolf?

Lets get back to the story about these nVidia drivers and lets find out if they actually can damage hardware?

Honestly, this garbage should stay out of a thread like this. It's not relevant to the discussion.

This is about NV drivers and not AMD's advocate program.

I never said you were trying to convey that everyone reporting problems is on AMD's payroll. That was just MY commentary of some of the stuff we have heard lately, but apologize if what I wrote made it seem like I was putting those words in your mouth.

Of course, what you wrote about AMD's advocacy program is still ironic.

Picked up a GTX 770 (MSI TF) yesterday and installed this driver. Ran 3DMark 11, Nvidias DX11 New Dawn demo, played Crysis 3, Tomb Raider and Metro LL (each for about 20 min) and everything ran flawlessly. I think I'm going to stick with this driver (for time being).

So, what? I shouldn't run any games on my GTX 460 1GB?

I don't want to destroy them. I can't afford to buy 2 more cards for SLI.

If you have the slightest doubt - which you apparently do :D - stick with 314.22. I was on 320.18 for my last card 660ti and now on 770 and all working perfectly fine. That doesnt mean it isnt a problematic driver for some, but for me its OK and no issues whatsoever.

Well I've been running it since it came out and have played bf3 and metro last light without any issues. Once thing that I have noticed about bf3 is that sometimes issues are map specific.

How many times has nVidia released card killing drivers to the public now? Someone should start selling insurance for nVidia cards.

This discussion is about the 320.18 drivers -- stay on topic, and I won't close the thread.

Until this one is confirmed (is it?) only once - the one that turned the fan off when playing SC2.

So anyways, I've got this Gigabyte GTX460 1GB OC card, with the WindForce dual-fan cooler on it, and it has one slightly bum fan.

I'm selling it to a friend for $50. Price is that low because of the one bum fan. It still runs, and doesn't overheat, because the other fan works ok.

So anyways, I find out about this thread around almost a week ago, so I TXT my friend, and tell him not to use the 320.18 drivers, because they have been reported to kill cards.

So the other night, I talk to him, and he's like, "hey, yeah, I got your TXT. I've been running those drivers for a week".

I was a little pissed off at him, because I told him I'd give him a six-month warranty on the card, but if he's going to run drivers that supposedly kill cards, and I told him about it, and the card dies, I don't feel like I should have to return his money, because I warned him about it.

What do you folks think?

Anyways, I'll update if the card does die.

Nvidia needs to step up their troubleshooting game if it takes end users sending Nvidia hardware to try and fix driver issues. I suppose I should not be surprised given the Vista debacle, that is a great example of woefully inadequate testing on the part of Nvidia.

There's a reason they want the cards in hand. Maybe it's to check and see if any permanent damage was done to the affected cards?

And this is the second warning -- this discussion is about the 320.18 drivers.

And how exactly pointing out similar driver issues is offtopic? It good to know that things like that happened before to nvidia, and how they solved the problem, and what affected people can do about it.

You now look like you are censoring inconvenient facts.
Offtopic: "What is your favorite color", stahlhart?

Tell him to roll back if he wants the warranty, no reason for you to cover a driver version that Nvidia is investigating for potentially damaging hardware.

So far 320.18 running rock solid on my 770 with everything I've thrown at it. Dont have BF3 or AC3 which are reportedly having issues with this driver for many. Seen quite a few people claiming their cards died at Nv forums, but mostly its artifacts or crashing in games. What the heck can it be to cause major issues for some people but run well for others??
