I am running WinXP Pro and IIS. Recently, I noticed that my applications have been responding really slowly to my request. Say, for example, I want to start IE. In the past, the IE browser would pop up almost immediately, but now it's taking 2-3 seconds longer. Same things goes to my other apps like Eudora and netscape. I have already scanned for virus (using NAV 2002 with newest virus definition) and trojan (using Trojan Remover 4.5.7 with newest database), but the scans were negative. Also when loading an application or IE browser, I will have to see the app loads in a completely white window with just the blue titlebar on top, leading me to think that the application has stopped responding. However, a few seconds later, it will usually complete the loading process.
My computer starts up with NAV, Ad-Watch, Panorama, Pop-Up Killer and Tiny Personal Firewall in the system tray. I tried disabling all the startup items (through msconfig), but didn't notice any difference in the way my applications load. Part of this might have been contributed by the Trojan Trap 1.0 program I installed a few days ago. Since then I had uninstalled Trojan Trap manually since the uninstallation process (through Add/Remove program) always fell part way though and restarted my computer (even though I have unchecked "automatic restart" in Windows' Error & Recovery preferences. Anyway, I deleted the Trojan Trap installed folder along with all its entries in the registry.
As for my devices, I have 3 USB (always connected) and 1 firewire (not always connected) devices.
I am not very excited at the prospect of having to reformat my hard-drive and to reinstall Windows along with all other applications. I hope someone out here can help me out. Thanks.
