I want to replace the power button on my Supermicro SC760A case with a car style, key operated, ignition switch. It should be a simple mod but I wouldn't know where to find a switch like that. Any ideas?

would be very cool, but i'm not sure how it would be done... .you'd have to find a key-switch, that when turned, acts like a "momentary" switch.

I've done it a while ago ;) What you need is a SPST key lock toggle, you can look for it at a Radio Shack catalog ($4.95), and I wish I had the part #... :Q
All you do is cut the power switch (positive) wire, and lead it through the toggle switch, then mount in on a 5.25" drive bay slot.

Ok, i found the part # ;) Its 900-7154, get it at any R.S. location.

Damn that's an awesome idea!... It'd be awesome if we could get the start up noise too... hehehe imagine having to jump start your computer?

I always think it would be cool. Then my laziness kicks in and I think of what a hassle it'd be to have another key for my computer. The ones for the removable drive bays are annoying enough.

K, I've seen it done well on VH's web page, but no how to yet, but I asked some one, they suggest go to junk yard/ car parts place, and get an Ignition from a car, that has a bunch of terminals. Last one should be a momentary, like a car when you first start it, you turn it all the way, and the starter motor fires it up then it springs back, but while your turning it to that position it kicks on power to other sub systems, like lights and heat, so you could wire your case to kick up your fans ahead of time, or if you have like a light in the case, all kinds of ideas and things to try
