Mod a Proliant 2500 server? any ideas?

Just got my hands on a crazy compaq proliant 2500 server..

specs:
2xPPro200s (can be overclocked somewhat)
2x128mb edo ram
5 hot swapable scsi2 5 gig drives... in raid 5 configuration
temperature monitor on the top that seems to indicate several dif temp reading zones...
and 1 hell of a sweet case.

If i could somehow get my atx mb into this case + use the hot swapable scsi drives.... wow that would be very sweet! This case is so elite I can't begin to describe how cool it would be to get my oc'd xp1800 in there... Anyway, has anyone heard of any projects to convert these things, or know of anything similar? The case is obviously extremely custom... the motherboard is like split in three and folded over itself. i would imagine it's not exactly atx standard. hmmm ideas???
 
It would take MAJOR modifications as it uses a non-standard motherboard, non-standard powersupply, non-standard front panel connections, etc.

They are built like tanks, aren't they? 🙂
 
you know what... it's relatively wide for a tower. I'm thinking I could take out the old mb + PSU and secure one of my ghetto mid tower atx chassis inside... then hookup the cdroms etc.. to the rest of the case. Guess that would weigh...
 
Have you powered it up yet? It's quite loud.
I've never heard of 5gig SCSI drives...probably 4.3's? While you're at it, what color are the drive trays? (Black = Ultra2/3) Also, when you look at the back of the tray (where it plugs into the case): look at the tray-drive connector to see if you can upgrade the drives w/ Ultra-Wide or SCA. At the same time, look at the tray spade connectors: One long row = 50pin/narrow SCSI, long row in the center w/ small tabs at both sides = fast/wide SCSI.
All proprietary chassis/mobo/psu. Does NOT play well with non-Compaq parts. 🙁

Before you go put a different mobo, check the RAID controller, to see it it's a 32-bit or 64-bit card. If it's a 64-bit (double-length PCI) try and get a mobo which has the right slot. It'll work in a normal slot if you need it to.
