Mock/Taunt your "Favorite" DC Team here...

I was just over at Toms Hardware, and thoguht I'd check in on their F@H team just for grins. I just want to take this time to say YOU SUCK THG! Your folding team can't hold a candle to the juggernaut that is TeAm Anandtech! You'd like a piece of this wouldn't you. uh huh come and get it. At your rate you'll catch us about the time world peace is achieved. Ha!

Ok I feel better... Let the venting/mockery begin!

Speaking only for myself I personally have nothin but respect for the other DC teams and Mocking or taunting them is the last thing I would do.
The Find a Drug team of which I'm a member of is about to be passed by the DPC and I wish them all the best. They have picked up their production to a level we can't begin to match and they deserve respect for doing so. If we don't like it then it is up to us to find a way to match their production but remember it's all for the good of the project. I wish we was able to hit 2 million a day but we can't so it's good that they and the few other teams can. Who knows maybe one day we will until then we will keep do the best we can but I wouldn't want them mocking us because we can't match their production no more then you would want the twentysome teams in folding ahead of Anandtech to mock our folding team
Every team in dc deserves respect for the time , effort , and money they put into the projects they run.

I share your sentiments Freewolf, and its all in good fun. I also applaud the efforts of everyone donating clock cycles to these various DC causes. However a little friendly competition/sparring every now and again is a good thing I think 🙂 As long as people know the intentions are light hearted. (Which I obviously didn't make clear at all with my first post. Sorry THG 😛 )

Fun is one thing. Respectless mocking-flaunting-venting of a project is something else. Since there are people who will get offended - frustrated - sad - upset - angry - or who even may quit DC - because of rude behavior or rude posting I will under no circumstances partake in such endeavor.
A DC-project is not dead. It consists of people who organize it, who work in it and those who crunch. The give something of their time, work, resources and they should be respected for that. Offensive posting has no constructive function, is not fun, and serves no positive purpose.

phaxmohdem, I am sure there are some people who have a different view and who may join you in this thread.
I will not. I enjoy fair play, sportmanship and rather come second or third in a good competition than cause some fellow man distress by offending.

I am also somewhate aged compared to most people in the DC-community (I think 😉 ), and therefore - by definition a old dry stick. But dry wood gives the best support ... 😎

Sometimes it only takes a few people to make a big difference....on that note how much bandwidth does FaD take? I might be able to equalize the situation some  If not now, soon....things are in the works

Another right on 😛

Crazee
bandwidth is small on fad 😛

Mike

I need a number if possible because though it may be small when you have 3,500 P4 Hyperthreads working on it...it tends to add up

ouch sorry

I am not running it but maybe jiim er freewolf can supply the numbers or geoffs, I pm'd them as well as steven (mondobyte) answer should be here soon. Mondo knows all the ins and outs on fad 😛

Thanks 🙂 It looks like in another few months the logjam at work we have had with bandwidth is finally going to be alleviated with a secondary 60Mb line being added 😀

With Seti winding down, I would like to have a good idea of what project(s) will be suited for a large environment deployment.

It's hard to give a exact number since the work units are different sizes and some can take a day to crunch and others can take a week to do.Plus if a machine is offline when it is finished with all the uncrunched work it has it will create it own work to do.

Yes you do on the Folding team Too bad I was talking about the Find a Drug team.

I wonder if there is a way to calculate what a typical machine would use in a week or some other time period. If I had something like that and could calculate it out over the number of machines to get a ballpark. I don't need anything exact, just an average would be good.

Is there anything in the client or an add on that would capture stats in a log like setiwatch?

Also does it favor Intel or AMD procs? Is there benefit from hyperthreading? I used to run FaD back when hardly anyone else was, but I imagine it has changed some since then.

I run it on both processers and it will setup to use 2 processes on dual and hyperthreaded machines. Seems fairly even as far as points go between the two .
The server keeps track of every job completed but I don't think there is anything that keeps track of the points like setiwatch does.
I will post on the FaD forums about the bandwidth. Some opf those guys have close to a hundred machines crunching so they might have an idea. I sure Mondo will as well when he comes online.

Cool, I am about 2-3 months away from being in state where I can implement something, however I would like to start accessing different projects and determining what will work best. That will also give me time to work up a deployment package so I can just install it through the software delivery system.

I can tell you this. Find A Drug doesn't use nearly as bandwidth as seti does. Not even close.
I posted on the Find a Drugs forums so lets see what they say about it.
