AHHH! No wonder why they look so similar. I Googled a bit and found out there used to be a site called www.ecselitegroups.com and PC Chips and ECS were listed(looked in Google's cache) on the same page.

So far, ECS/PC Chips is the unmatched loser, Abit is second. DISTANT second though

Jerboy, AFAIK, the group's not only limited to ECS/ PCChips. Also there are other brands under that stinky hood :D

BTW haven't you heard of mnufacturers supplying oem parts to others??? for example, gigabyte builds elsa cards, etc etc.... There's a HUGE list of such trade practices going on, but we don't get to know because companies sell under their own brand names etc...!!!!

Just wanted to add IWILL to the list.

When applying for my 3rd RMA; I stated that I just could not stomach another IWILL. Even though the 30 day warrenty had long since past; NewEgg allowed me to change to a EPox. Am quite happy now.

Now doubt PC Chips, AZZA and ECS are worse; had to add IWILL to the list!!!

danparkcityut,

fortunately one of the mistakes I've *yet* to do would be to buy a motherboard from AZZA (or PC Chips or ECS or any of the other crap manufacturers). However, I've never seen even one favorable review of an AZZA board, even when considering the price factor. Same goes for PC Chips and ECS.

The "best" thing I remember about ECS would be that they were one of the few companies to manufacture boards based on the VIA P4X266, and the *only* company (to my knowledge) producing SiS735 Athlon boards. But I may be wrong on that last account...

As for myself, the first PC I had (back in 1994) was built on the famous Intel Plato board (didn't assemble that myself). All later rigs were based around ASUS boards (P55T2P4, P2B, P3B-F).
For my new rig I had originally considered the Gigabyte GA-8IRXP, but I'll probably go for the P4B266 (since I already have some DDR RAM memory).

FIC, I still have'nt forgiven them for that early revision 503+ I bought years ago. Of course early Via chipsets/drivers had a lot to do with it, and the fact that I was a Newbie (and still remain one) made matters worse.

PC-Chips and their craptacular integrated boards in a walk.

As a side note, i nominate Chaintech as being the best budget mobo maker whose existence everyone always forgets about, yet make pretty damn good boards for the price.

I've heard of Chaintech making a mATX SiS 735 board... It seems to be a decent performer.

I'm sure someone will step in here to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read this here:

PCChips = ECS who makes ................Shuttle MB's.

Anyway, I've yet to buy a MB that I hate.

Shuttle made by ECS :)

My votes goes to PC Chips/ECS & Abit!

When I used to work at a comp shop I hated the day my boss started getting those SOB boards to save some cost. 7 out of 10 PC Chips boards fail or DOA. Abit's even worse at 8 of 10 ratio. It didn't take long for me to quit my job as I was spending more time fixing broken PCs and RMAing those crappy mobos.

Have a nice day! :)

A vote for DFI. There AK76-SN board fried two of my PSU's. When I asked for tech support, I got lousy service. I got a new board but they wouldnt replace the broken PSU's.

I vote for AOpen, when you request for support, they always try to solve everything FLASHING YOUR BIOS!!

That means that they always have something wrong when the phase in a new mobo??

How many BIOS releases do we have to wait for the mobo to becomes reliable????

I hate this AOpen mobo company!!!!!!:|

I know this isn't exactly the point, but how about "any motherboard with the old pre-Award Phoenix BIOS"?

never knew Pine... thanks for that.

The local place sells this pine crap that I tried once, told them to not sell it anymore. They say they don't have problems with it, but they lie...
I've seen a lot of their pine stuff returned, and people complain that it doesn't work, and thats just when I'm there.

No one even thought to add Soyo.
What a sad state of affairs ...
your company must REALLY be bad to not even get listed as an option.
Heck, I even saw someone list PINE!
(what about Azza and Soletek?)

My motherboard manufacturing reseach shows that almost all mobo manufaturer in Taiwan produces their product in many different names, not only ECS. Proximately, 90% the mobo name on the Poll listed by Jerboy is also Taiwan based manufacturer. FYI, Soyo is the first Taiwan mobo manufacturer that produce mobo with it's own name "SOYO" unlike other brands that use other names first to exist in the mobo market.

Moreover, I only find that Super Micro motherboard is the only mobo produced by US based manufacturer. I had this mobo 2 years ago in my Pentium pro 200 rig.

question: "Anybody know what other mobo manufacturers originally based and founded in USA?"
