Mobo overheating?

Hey everyone,

I put together a new box last weekend, and everything seemed to be running fine, but lately I've noticed a lot of stability issues, where the thing will just lock up and freeze. After this happens, sometimes a cntl-alt-del will restart it, but sometimes I am forced to turn off the power manually, and then turn it back on.

I suspected it might be a heat issue, so I opened my case and noticed that the fan over the northbridge wasn't seated correctly, so I took everything out, and used a spacer and a pushpin to put it back on more tightly. However, even after doing this, I am still experiencing crashes (tho less frequently).

Was wondering if anyone had any input on possible problems or things to try. I ordered from unitedmicro.com and they do have a warrenty, so should I just send everything back? It's kind of a pain in the ass to do that, so I thought I'd ask here first. ;)

Here's what I've got:

KT7A Motherboard
1.13ghz Thunderbird (266 fsb)
Inno3D GeForce2MX
256 megs of PC133 Cas 2 crucial SD-RAM
POS ISA creative sound blaster for a sound card
some generic ethernet card i cant remember ;)

Also, here is my dxdiag.txt

I have the same exact mobo, and i can tell ya your problem is not with the northbridge fan because i took it off... damn thing was too noisy... If it is a heat issue, which it does sound like that's a strong possibility, try reattaching the hs/f to the cpu, perhaps it's not on tight enuff, or reapplying thermal paste or even using better paste... Also, what hs/f are u using exactly? You can monitor your cpu temp and ambient case temp by using VIA's hardware monitor, it came with the board and is on the cd under utilities or freeware... Keep in mind that the cpu temp is not 100% accurate, though it can be a good indicator of how hot u r, it will always read slightly cooler than it actually is because the thermometor is on the bottom of the chip instead of actually touching the core. A safe temp is generally under 55, but i'd image at 1.1 ghz maybe under 60 is good. Good luck with that, LMK how it turns out
