Mobo Or Mouse?

😕

i have a minor random problem with my system, sometimes the mouse won't work (it's just freezing) and i have to restart again to have it working...sometimes i restart twice coz it still doesnt work at first restart... could it be my mobo or my mouse?

mobo: asus p4p800-e deluxe
mouse: a4tech-swop 53

i had this problem once (or maybe twice) on an intel mobo before but it was not as frequent as now on my asus mobo...

The easiest way to find out would be to plug in a different brand of mouse. If the problem goes away, then it's either a problem with a mouse, or some sort of compatibility issue betewen the motherboard and the atech mouse.

If the problem does not go away, then it might be a problem with the motherboard itself.

What EXACTLY is happening when you have the problem? Does the whole computer lock up completely (if so, it might be caused by something else entirely)? Or does the mouse just nog work until you restart the computer again?

The first thing you need to do is figure out if the whole computer is locked up or just the mouse. Does the keyboard respond when it locks up? Press CTRL+ESC and see if the start menu comes up. If not, the whole computer is locked and you have issues far beyond a flaky mouse.

my dad had a problem with his computer, it would freeze out of the blue. I went over there and on the first boot the mouse wouldn't respond. Booted again, mouse worked... after a few minutes, the computer freezed. Rebooted, no mouse again. So I gave him a 20CAD optical mouse and it fixed the problem. I think the solder job inside the mouse was at fault, and the mobo didn't like the PS2 mouse to go away and then come back because of the bad contact...
